Was the grille made ugly on purpose?
Do you think when the designers of the C7 made the front grille on the C7 stingray(with the chrome strip), they purposely made it ugly. I know Im being a little bit funny here, but it seems most people either changed it to the Z06 grille, or get the chrome strip covered. I guess when I first bought the car, it didnt bother me as much, but over time, and seeing so many people change it out on here, I just had to do it.

It's a matter of preference. When I first got my car over two years ago, I was already set to cover the chrome to black...but in time, I forgot about it. It's really one of those things that nobody but yourself and few of your OCD friends would ever notice or have it bother. The average joe who most likely doesn't know the base model from a ZR1 would ever think that the chrome is a bad choice and that it should be black from the get go.

I like the stock grille and the chrome strip ties in with the silver painted wheels. I also like the stock grille because the openings are actually small enough to keep road debris from getting to the radiator.
As you can tell. I also will not be buying chrome or black wheels. Chrome looks less serious in a sports car and black does not show details of the wheel.

The Z06 grill looks way better.

I have always thought that the designers added the chrome strip to reflect a bit of the late C1 grille designs.

The chrome strip is a bit of a tie in to the C1. Going to let mine shine. But we have the polished “chrome” wheels too and like them better than black.

I like it myself. Calling it "Ugly" is a bit subjective, don't you think?

The chrome strip looks out of place against the black grill to me, especially considering how little chrome is on the car.

George, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! That being said, I didn't buy a C6 because the grill did absolutely nothing for me. Plus, I also did this to my C7 last week.

Remember, someone likes almost everything! (even the crappola no one else does) And, of course, I and many others paid extra to be rid of it!
Saying the chrome strip is a tie-in to older Vettes like the one pictured above seems a loooong reach for me or the C7s would have chrome around the grille opening, as well... YIKES!

The answer to your question is YES. The same designers did the “chrome strip” on the C7 that put BSM on the C5! They are gone now, or should be.

It all comes down to your taste in the factory look. I don't mind the chrome strip on the grille, but I have to admit I do like the Z06 grille better than the base one.

I did not mind the chrome strip but then decided to black it out with grille tape. Easy to do.

It seems like most changed it out because those are the only owners you heard from. Did you ever see a thread entitled "I left my chrome strip alone"? I covered my chrome strip though. I bought a two piece carbon flash plastic overlay kit. I didn't want the Z06 grille because I don't like the looks of it. Like others have stated. It's personal preference In fact, I don't think either grill is really much to look at. I made a mistake buying a Stingray anyway. I should have bought a Z06, but didn't know any better when I purchased it. I thought I did my homework, but you never really know on your first Corvette until you can experience it for a while. As long as we are on the subject I also wish I had bought a M7, even though my A8 has 53,000 miles on it and has been trouble free. The A8 is just plain boring to me. I'd rather have something to do when I'm driving. I digressed. Thanks for reading.

Newer Stingrays w/ the Carbon Flash emblem pkg., no longer have the chrome bar. It's a $100 option.
