I'm a bit confused with the remote start procedure and would like some clarification before I test it out. I am aware of how to start the car via the remote my question is what do you do when you enter the car, while it is still running, and want to drive off? Do you step on the brake and hit the start button? Thanks.

 

Usually the clutch. Since I have an M7 i was not aware these cars had remote starting.

 

 

I'm sure the FOB has to be present before you are able to drive off, with standard trans. M7 isn't an option from the factory.

 

Remote start, when you get in the car, press the brake pedal and then the start button, seats, mirrors, steering wheel move and the car is ready to drive off. M7s do not have remote start. Remote start is only available on the automatics.

Starting the Engine Using Remote
Start
1. Press and release LOCK on the
RKE transmitter.
2. Immediately press and hold REMOTE START
for at least four seconds or until
the turn signal lamps flash. The
lamps flash to confirm the
request to remote start the
vehicle has been received.
During the remote start, the
doors will be locked and the
parking lamps will remain on as
long as the engine is running.
The engine will shut off after
10 minutes unless a time
extension is done.
3. Press the brake pedal and select
the ON/RUN/START
ignition mode.
Extending Engine Run Time
The engine run time can also be
extended by another 10 minutes,
if during the first 10 minutes
Steps 1–2 are repeated while the
engine is still running. This provides
a total of 20 minutes.
The remote start can only be
extended once per ignition cycle.
A maximum of two remote starts,
or a remote start with an extension,
are allowed between ignition cycles.
After two remote starts, the vehicle's
ignition must be changed to ON/
RUN/START and then back to OFF
before the remote start procedure
can be used again.
Canceling a Remote Start
To cancel a remote start, do any of
the following:
. Press and hold REMOTE START until the
parking lamps turn off.
. Turn on the hazard warning
flashers.
. Turn the vehicle on and then
back off.
Conditions in Which Remote Start
Will Not Work
The remote start will not operate if
any of the following occur:
. The ignition is in any mode other
than OFF.
. The transmitter is in the vehicle.
. The hood is not closed.
. The hazard warning flashers
are on.
. There is an emission control
system malfunction.
. The engine coolant temperature
is too high.
. The oil pressure is low.
. Two remote vehicle starts have
already been used.
. The vehicle is not in P (Park).

I think the point of this is to get the interior of car warm or cool and the seats hot or cool. In mine though the seat warmers cancel once you turn the car off

 

 

In SW Florida the car gets REALLY hot inside. I start the car and the A/C comes on while I'm walking to. (parked at the far side of the parking lot, naturally) Cools it down quite a bit.

 

More of a gimmick than anything

Obviously you never used one in a cold freezing morning.

 

 

For me, it's one of the most often used features in winter or just for fun to hear it bark and rumble when walking to the car.

Nothing like standing behind the car and remote starting it in track mode to get that air pulse hit through your chest from the exhaust!

Agree, but of all the "less than ideal" things you can do to a car, this one is one of the most minor.

 

I have it on my Tundra and it is by far one of the best features.

 

Especially when it's a cold start.

 

I use remote start often with my 2016 Z06 and 2014 ATS. I start them when I am approaching the car and in the few seconds it takes to get in and buckle up the engine has dropped to base idle and is ready to go.

I don't start them and let them idle a long time to warm the engine because engine warm up is best done by a couple of miles of moderate driving rather than letting the engine idle with no load. My GMC pickup has a fast warm up strategy which advances the idle, engages the transmission (with the output shaft still locked in park), and sets the turborcharger exhaust vanes to maximum closed position but this only engages when the ambient temperature is around 34 or lower and is primarily designed to prevent diesel engine issues from incomplete combustion rather than provide for creature comfort.

 

Love the remote start, had my 2014 in a parking lot and was walking to my car and saw
a few people hanging around the car and trying to look inside.
Started the car with the remote start and they jumped back and moved away from touching
my car, plus loved hearing the exhaust sound from a distance.

 

I use remote start often and love it. Its very safe in its design and application.

This winter there's been lots of thefts of cars idling unattended as they warm up. Theft of a remote started Corvette is very hard to do due to the layering of security. The car is locked in step one of the start sequence. No one is getting in without a correct fob. If somehow through hook or crook someone did get into the car they can't complete the start cycle with brake/start button sequence without a correct fob. Can't shift into any gear, can't make car do anything.

The thing that has baffled me for 3 years is the HVAC functions on remote start. The OM for my 2015 says the HVAC will function at the settings being used when the car was last turned off. Mine will almost always turn on the AC and blow hard, even when I've had it turned OFF before I turned the car off. A few times when it was very cold outside the HVAC did turn on the heat. I never run the HVAC in auto mode.

 

My 2008 CTS had the worst HVAC behavior with cold remote start because regardless of the settings I left it with it would turn on the heater at high blower speed when remote started. That meant in winter time it was blowing huge amounts of very cold air. When I got it my daughter was still very young and although I would have liked to have taken her directly to her car seat in cold weather I had to first turn on the HVAC system to keep from giving her a practical lesson in wind chill.

I haven't paid too much attention to what the Corvette HVAC does with remote start but I will check that as soon as it comes out of hibernation.

 

How do you get the heater or ac to come on with the remote start? Mine remains off until I get in the car and "start" it after the remote start. No pre heating or cooling for me.
