It is done through the "Settings" on the NAV screen.

Remote Start Climate Control
Operation (If Equipped): If remote
start is used to start the vehicle, the
climate control system will come on.
The system uses the driver’s
previous settings to heat or cool the
inside of the vehicle. The rear
window defogger may come on
based on cold ambient conditions.
The rear defog indicator light may
not come on during a remote start.
The heated or ventilated seats may
turn on if it is cold or hot outside.
See Remote Vehicle Start on
page 2-9 andHeated and Ventilated
Front Seats on page 3-7 (if
equipped).

On the contrary, not a gimmick at all. I love mine on a hot summer day--out to dinner or whatever, just as I'm getting ready to pay the check, use the iPhone app to remote start the car, and it's nice and cool inside when you hop in vs. opening the door on a 95-100 degree Dallas day and feeling the heat just roll out of the car like openning the door to a blast furnace

The ***** remain dark until you press start. The hvac is on whatever you had it set on when you shut the car down . Try turning the fan all the way up, then shut the car off. Exit, and remote start it and get back in . The fan should be blowing full blast even though the ***** are dark.

If it's not blowing full blast, then it's malfunctioning, and should be taken to the dealer .

I like to fire it up from across the parking lot when there are little kids looking at the car. They get kick out of it.

Me to. Scare the bajeezus out of them! Adults to. Just kidding, but it is fun to start it up when someone is giving it the once over and see their reaction.

Obviously you never used one in a cold freezing morning.
Or a sweltering hot day. I don't have it on my C7 (manual) but do on my Kia.

Who's "they?"

It does not check anything.

The car will run the AC/heating at exactly the same setting as you shut the car down. You need to plan ahead.
