I don't know the VIN start sequence, but just look at the driver door placard just below the latch which shows the production date. If it's 11/17 or later, that 18 was painted in the new plant and will be identical to the 19s. I could tell the OPs car was pre-plant shutdown because it was Z06 #334.

All 18's were not painted in the new plant. There was a gap in production between July and November 2017, while the plant was closed for retooling and finishing the new paint plant.

The pic makes it look like the panels weren't aligned properly and are too close, which would cause the paint to chip.

Hopefully the OP gets a satisfactory resolution, as this should be a warranty issue, IMO.

C'mon guys, what do you expect for $89,500? Gotta spend at least $100k for acceptable paint.

My car (C6) had the same issues, there were multiple areas where the paint didn't cover around the edges.
Hatch, rear bumper cover that met the hatch and rear quarters. Also on the front bumper where it lined up to the hood.
What it basically looked like was a if someone used a fine black Sharpie in those areas.

Because this issue was so commonly reported in the past, I've scrutinized every edge on my new plant car, and am happy to report, I think this issue has been solved in the new paint plant. Every edge is very smooth and consistent.

I suspect there was a lot more variability in the old plant, and the painting process is much more precise and consistent now.

In other discussion on this topic it was commented that the parts with paint adhesion issue are supplied as a painted part rather than painted at the plant. The paint on my 17 and 18 had no issue. It seems this was a hit or miss issue. I think the best outcome is your dealer can obtain a new painted bumper and install it. Others report good outcome having the dealer re-paint it.

Look guys, I love my chevy corvette Z06 too, but let's be real..its a Chevy after all. If your expecting a Lambo type paint job, you are sadly mistaken about the level of detail between those two cars. If you want to battle it out with the dealership..good luck..they won't do anything different than they already do in the paint booth. btw, get ready for the 'orange peel' texture paint as local dealerships don't have GM factory robots. Best of luck.

It is difficult for shops to match the different levels of orange peel.

It doesn't matter when/where his car was painted because the bumpers come painted from the supplier.

These paint problems happened mostly on Z06's and Grand Sports and the Stingrays were not affected that much as I remember. There were less than 3000 Z06's total produced in 2018 so the op's car was probably built in the old paint shop. We will have to wait for owners of Z06's and GS's to report if they have these problems since those were the cars that were mostly affected in the past. Hopefully the new paint shop fixed the problem!

How does the paint shop fix a problem that doesn't occur in the paint shop? Hopefully the revised plant assembly arrangement allows for better QC to control this issue.

Z06 and GS/Stingray each have their own last six digit VIN sequence numbers. So the OPs VIN is 600334, and there's a 100334 GS or Stingray out there too, which share the same sequence numbers.

The first digit is 6 for Z06 and 1 for GS/Stingray. However, you're right it's an old plant car, given that the number is so low.

This makes me glad that I didn't wait, (or buy) a 2018, instead buying a new 2017.

Since you have already invested in the ceramic coating, I would just touch up and call it done. Sounds like doing under warranty could cause additional concerns and cost. I have the same issue on my 17 GS and was very disappointed that I was one of "those" cars. It does not bother me as much now, but if I get too concerned, I'll probably just use touch up paint. It's very noticeable (to me) on AW; only other C7 owners looking to see if I have the chipping paint problem would ever really notice.

redman, touch it up you will hardly notice it after you put the touch up paint on it and I too would not want a repaint or panel or bumper front fascia swap as I believe when things are taken apart on Corvettes other problems arise!
