Try a hard reset, disconnect battery for 5 minutes.

"Try a hard reset, disconnect battery for 5 minutes." YES, but I'd suggest up to 30 minutes before taking other action. All the best!

Test the battery while you are there. Strange thing happen when the battery goes bad.

UPDATE:

Well....I had to use bumper key to get into trunk for battery since the car thinks its in drive and wont open....did disconnect battery for 30 minutes and it didnt help....The car will not crank either since it thinks its in drive but the shifter is stuck in park....computer is acting weird and worse of all I tried to put top up but it says that it is inoperable and do manually (when I visited the corvette plant last year I asked a tech how to put the top up in case I ever have a battery failure and his exact words are....dont do it!!)
So I spoke to my local dealer and they are sending a rollback to get her in the morning.
I will have to admit I was pretty pissed off about this but in the scheme of things I decided to look at the bright side of the situation-first this happened when I pulled into my garage and didnt leave me stranded with rain coming and no way to get top up, also lucky enough to be cruising in my vette on a sunny 80 degree afternoon in ga........so I am sure many people had a worse day than I had!!

Has anybody else had this happen or am I the lucky individual that is the first????

So all you folks that can cruise in your vettes this weekend...think about me!!!!

I will let everybody know how this goes.............

Similar but different thing happened to me with my c5. Placed lever in park, then couldnt get it out of park as the lever moved freely, but indicator said i was in drive. Turned out to be a broken shifter pin. Sold the c5 to my lawn man and bought a manual c7 gs. Problem solved.

That is the way to look at it. If it had to happen the garage is about the best place.

Can you move the shift lever at all? Try going into service mode by holding the Start button for 10 sec without your foot on the brake. Everything should work as if the motor was running. Be sure to press the start button to exit Service mode - it does not time out.

This sure sounds like a Shift Control Cable has broken or come loose at one end or the other.

Not sure if you can see the cable by lifting the boot around the shift lever, but this may help you get access:

Good luck!

FINAL UPDATE!!!

Just want to let everybody know what happened so they can gain the knowledge that I did!!!
Once it got to the dealership they put it inside for me since the top would not go up......they were super nice at the new Sons Chevrolet in Columbus Ga!!
They called me about an hour later and said you are ready to go.....I say what???
I had a new torque tube put in about 3 months ago and evidently the other chevy dealer did not tighten down a throttle cable bracket....it simply slide out of place and moved the throttle cable. They attached the bracket properly and everything was fixed!!!! Now that is freaking awesome the service I got from GM roadside assistance and my new chevy dealer......
BUT......what is disturbing is a simple bracket comes loose and basically shuts my entire vehicle down...makes it undrivable and shuts the computer system down!!!! That is scary!!!
BUT... DAM I STILL LOVE MY CAR!!!!

**thanks to everybody that responded...some of you guys were almost dead on to the problem!!!

Corvettes don't have throttle cables, like all new cars, they are drive by wire. Are you sure he didn't say "shift cable".

My first thought was shift cable, too, since mine broke recently (on my '05), but why would that make every thing, including the top inoperable?

I'm sure he meant shifter cable - how else could the lever position not match the dash indicator position?
