Default Tow Hook

My 2019 C7 stingray has a battery cover with space for a tow hook, however, the dealer informed me that the tow hook is not provided on USA cars. The lawyers probably had something to do with it.
In any event looking through the front grill I see the nut which is the female part of the towing attachment. The parts department quoted $120 for a long bolt with an eye at the end which is the tow hook. Porsche pricing.
Has anyone had issues with towing the car without a tow hook?
Please share any experience you may have on this subject.

I purchased it on eBay info below. Make sure you request double length for a C7.

Flatbed drivers who know what they are doing will not use the bumper mounted tow hooks. Since it's not centered, it's dangerous to winch the car onto a flatbed using that hook.

The proper technique is a V-bridle w/ J-hooks inserted into the rocker jacking points on each side. Tow hooks are only for moving cars off a track quickly or perhaps pulling them out of muck when stuck.

Wonder if Amazon, Northern Tool, or Harbor Freight carries a suitable chromed, male bolt?

My Chev. salesman and I were perplexed as to why my new C7 didn't have the tow bolt in the pre-formed styrofoam shield above the battery. He basically sluffed it off and said he'd check on it. I subsequently learned here on CF that the tow bolts weren't supplied on my 2017 in the firstplace.

This is what you should use.

The empty receptacle is there because a tow hook is required in the EU and some other places. None of the US cars come with them. However, they are only for quickly getting a vehicle out of harms way. That doesn't mean without damage.

Also a good idea to have "T" hooks for the rocker jacking points to aid in the tie down after getting C7 up onto flatbed.

Then why is seemingly every European car built with offset hook attachments? At least on my Audi S5, the tow hook locations appear to be lined up with the front and rear frame rails. The C7 looks like it's located the same way.

This may come as a shock, but I've had to have the Audi towed a few times They've never had a problem getting it on the flatbed using the factory attachment points.

Oh sure, it can be done, but it also can be ugly. V-bridle is far safer.

My '15 doesn't have one too. Just an empty slot. Guess I'll have to order one.

Before I messed with a bolt or bought the overpriced cheap looking GM hook suggest getting this one for the ~same price as GMs from forum vendor. I bought it from Z1 Motorsports for two reasons: 1) brought the new Grand Sport one time to a local car show and 2) it fits in the rear compartment.

Wife's BMW SUV has tow hook access covers on the side both front and back. It was built in SC! Just in case I need to tow the C7 and the tow truck driver wants to use their typical hooks placed around the lower front "A" arms -I will make them use the tow hook, especially with my carbon fiber splitter!

It has a taper so it fits through the grill opening. Bet Z1 Motorsports would know it's capacity but from the size and material it appears very substantial.

You should look and make sure you have the threaded receiver on your car, front and back. Not all cars have them.

All Z06s and all Grand Sports have the receiver. Z51s built after about Dec 1 of 2014 have them. No North American market base cars have receivers.

The eBay listing says the legs are 29 inches and the total length is 38 inches. You provide directions to the vendor to double the length. What you have pictured looks longer than that. I want to order one so I don't have to winch my Z onto the trailer using the tow hook but I want to be sure exactly what I am ordering.

Bill,

What I cut and pasted above was my eBAY ordering instructions. This vendor knows the C7, and knows exactly what to do. What you receive is a V-Bridle with each of the 2 legs 60" long. That puts the D-ring just behind the front lip, which is perfect for the hook-up.

He does not charge extra for the "double-length."
