Default Infotainment screen flicker

2014 Z51M 17,000 miles. Build date November 2013.

While I have read all the other discussion on the past issues which seem to include later production years. I feel there is a difference between a blank or black screen and the screen flicker or old tv rolling.

Mine is the later and just started. The horn honk will and does stop the flicker for a few days. The under warranty repairs do not tell the owner what the real problem was. We never now exactly what has taken place in the shop.

While we have some very knowledgeable members with good opinions do we really know what is at issue? I am sure GM knows but has anyone had discussion with someone that knows?

Hard to believe it is the screen when it comes and goes for weeks without issue. Is it a software issue (why now and not two years ago)? Is it a connection (connector) issue? Is it a bad wiring issue? HMI issue? The need for an extra washer in the top right issue? Clip the zip tie on the two blue wires leading to the screen issue?

For us that are not under warranty, I just want to fix the problem once since the dash might have to come out. I have not talked to the dealer. Hoping four years later someone would have confirmed information on the cause and the cure. Thanks

I do know the part was redesigned to fix the issue, the whole screen and connectors are replaced. To bad it didn't happen under warranty although I'd still bring it in and say it's a known issue and should be covered.

2014 Z51 MN7. Build date November 2013.
Around 17,000 miles (2016) infotainment screen started to flicker like an old TV with Vertical Hold out of adjustment. Week after week it got worst. Sometimes honking the horn would temporary fix the flickering. Sometimes not.
Talked to a very knowledgeable service adviser, and forum member. He had seen (and fixed) this issue before and assured me that the infotainment screen need to be changed. I had him change the infotainment screen under warranty. The problem has gone away since.

I hope this helps. Might have been something simple, or ever since GM might have found better solution. However I trust my service adviser judgement.

I strongly believe that the reason the screens have to be replaced is because that is an easy way to fix the video feed to the screen. The video connectors that connect the screen to the car's wiring (HMI) are likely hardwired inside that screen. I don't know for sure without opening a screen up.

The difference between the flickering and the black screen is due to the difference between lousy video wire connection and a non-existent video wire connection. When the screen connector makes some contact, you get the flickering. When it makes no contact, the screen goes black since there is no video signal.

I agree. Most likely the 2 blue wires.
Since you are out of warranty I suggest you go ahead and try to fix yourself. Maybe start by opening the small triangle cover on driver side foot well and wiggle the wires a bit.

Someone on here picked a new screen up on EBAY and just swapped it. Worked for him...can't remember who though.

We had the dreaded screen flicker. Dealer told us it was a known issue and there was a service bulletin. We took it in and they changed the tune. No bulletin. But there was bull in their story. After a minor nudge and a call to the GM rep? They replaced the screen with a $100 co pay. Not free but cheaper than full retail. Just need to be the squeaky wheel sometimes.
