Just venting here so if you don't want to hear me bitch don't read. I've had my 2016 Z51 for a little over two years and was getting the itch for something different. So looked at a ton of new Hellcats in the Chicago area but when I went to get a trade in value I was floored. Anywhere between $42-45k for my car. Holy **** I couldn't get over how many used Corvettes there were in the market. The bottom really dropped out of these cars. This thing stickered for $72k and has lost about 30k in 24 months. Looks like she's staying put for now. Sorry for the rant...so for the forum member who offered me 45k last year you were right!!!
You took car in to trade and got a number. If you were looking for more you always sell it yourself. You are right more C7's than any other Corvette. If bought with a lot of options those cars lose the most the fastest.
A little more for a base Z06 that drops value the slowest.
Logic is really important to use when you're a grown up. When Math/Logic/Reality and I'd say even history and actual research is used before buying things or making decisions.... you don't end up being as surprised as you were.
Yeah, whenever you buy new you have to expect big time depreciation in the first 3 years or so. The only new vehicles I have seen that held their value really well we a Toyota Tacoma, FJ Cruiser and Subaru WRX. They all lost less than 20% of their value over 3 years.
Sports cars, forget it. Buy used if you can't stomach the depreciation.
I have noticed the same thing about the C7's for sale. Last year when I looking at the market to buy my car, told my wife that one thing about it, finding a good C7 Corvette is easy, they are everywhere. Not so much anymore, everyday I look at the market for the C7's on many different sites and have noticed that unless it is a high miler, all the cars are holding their value and are actually harder to find. Vroom and Carvana both used to have pages full of them for sale, not anymore, what few cars they have sell very quickly and not many cars coming available like they were and the pricing is pretty consistent starting around 40k and going up.
This is an old thread so things have changed drastically since 2018. Many factors come into play today. One of the most significant is that the biggest competitor of used C7's, GM, is not making them anymore. Then there's the delay of the C8..... that don't have manual transmissions. This summer is a great time to sell a C7.
