Tagging on to what Dave said in post #17, the names GMPP and GMEPP are both going away, which is contributing to the confusion. GM Financial's plan, which was previously known as GMEPP, is now the Buick/Cadillac/Chevrolet/GMC Protection Plan depending upon the model you purchase, and Ally's rights to use the name GMPP have or will soon expire.

The Chevrolet Protection Plan does cover more items than today's Ally plan. As time goes forward, fewer and fewer dealers will sell or work with the Ally plan (previously GMPP) as evidenced by Dave @ Kerbeck's statement above.

...He explained, "wheel bearing takes longer than 6 days to go bad". I asked just how long does it take? He didn't know how long and wouldn't share the criteria used...

Generally speaking, a wheel bearing takes awhile to go from barely noticeable to being quite loud. Almost all of the Atimas we have at work developed front wheel bearing failures. Mind did too; I heard it well before the fleet guy agreed it was bad. Same thing on the old FWD Chrysler products I put a ton of mile on. But there are exceptions. My father's Avalon went from fine to loud in under a thousand miles.

So what you are saying re: the wheel bearing is that you are not buying an extended warranty. You are buying a new warranty that starts after the old warranty ends and that has a preexisting exclusions clause. So if you drop a valve a la the C6Z06 and ruin a $15,000 engine they can say, "Sorry, but the valve guides were worn before our warranty started and hence we are not covering you?" Sorry but if that is the case I will trade all my cars before the 36 month and my V cars before the 48th month. Basically you (or really the GMEPP admins) are saying an extended warranty becomes nearly worthless as there is very little that is expensive they can not get out of. An electrical failure: "Sorry but the sensor was in place for 3 years and 36 months before we warranted the car so we will not cover it."

In our Professional E&O insurance we had the same problem. If you ever changed carriers the new carrier would not cover any event that had begun prior to their coverage. Became a big crap shoot and so nobody every changed carriers. Made quite a racket for the insurers.

BTW, I had the GM plan on my C6, and needed it in Albequerque while on a road trip. Smooth as silk, and back on the road in no time. I expect some dealers would have trouble opening a raisinete's box, but the majority know how to use the system.
I Bought a GMEPP from www.knappvehicleservicecontracts.com, I talked to Chris Gentner. She was very knowledgeable and the pricing that she gave me was the best I found. I am recommending her because of my experience.

I have the GMEPP (Chevrolet Protection Plan) from Dennis. I've used it twice. My service writer says it's a PITA, but it did paid both claims.

Going forward, I believe most dealers will switch to GMF's plan as we did. It's a much better plan and offers lot's of add-ons like Tire & Wheel Protection and Appearance Guard. They also have GAP and Lease Protect but those are only available at the time you purchase.

Feel free to reach out for a quote on Chevy Protection, we're pretty aggressive with our pricing.

Dave
No disrespect meant, but wheel and tire and appearance "add-ons" are the biggest overpriced upsells in the industry with fine print out the wazoo. Dealers will gladly sell you a wheel & tire package for your Z51 which doesn't cover chrome rims. It is also silly to buy GAP protection from a dealer when you can get it from your bank or car insurance provider for a LOT less, often a third or less. Been there done that on both the above. I absolutely hate sitting in the finance office at a dealer after buying a car and having to listen to hours of upsell.

Just saying.

Ok, so who can I talk to to buy my extended for my c7z in Florida? Also, what can I expect to pay, from my understanding Florida extended warranty prices are the locked in at a specific price.

thank you,

eddie.

LOL, I paid $573 at Criswell for a 5 yr. tire and wheel plan when I purchased my car from Mike Furman in February. In June, I picked up a nail in the right front tire which was fixable and repaired at no charge with a proper plug patch from the inside. In July, the left rear picked up a screw near the side-wall. The rear tire was replaced at no charge. My plan has already paid for itself in 5 months.

It's like all other insurance, you hope you don't need it, it provides peace of mind, and it pays to shop around on price. On a car with sticky, low profile tires that pick up nails like magnets, and low profile making wheels vulnerable to potholes, it's a bargain. My recent two punctures bring my grand total to 4 in my two C7s.

If you actually use your C7 as a real vehicle for transportation, extended warranties and tire/wheel insurance are well worth it given the amount of exposure. However, garage queens don't get flat tires or bent wheels sitting still in the garage, so they probably aren't as desirable.

Cal Allen Black of Black Cadillac in Ebensburg PA 877-472-9550 x302
I bought my GMEPP from them yesterday for my 2016 Z06, 72 month 40k miles, $100 deductible for $1205.
Saved $500 over several other preferred providers. Allen is very knowledgeable, easy to access and work with,
painless, quick process. Several club members recommended him, I found out why!!

Well...Much to my surprise -- especially after reading the foregoing -- when I look up the Chevrolet Protection Plan, this summary is provided:

"Check with your Finance and Insurance Manager at your dealership for availability. Information provided is for illustration/summary purposes only; see Terms and Conditions/GAP Addendum/Pre-Paid Maintenance Agreement/XS Wear Contract for complete details of these GM-endorsed products. Vehicle Service Contracts coverage is provided and administered by AMT Warranty Corp., P.O. Box 927, Bedford, TX 76095, (877) 265-1072 (except in Florida, the obligor/provider and administrator is Wesco Insurance Company, 59 Maiden Lane, 43rd Floor, New York, NY 10038, [866] 327-5818, LICENSE #01913). GAP Coverage is provided by the dealer/creditor and administered by AMT Warranty Corp., (877) 265-1166. AMT Warranty Corp. and Wesco Insurance Company are GM-preferred providers but are not related entities of GM or its dealerships. Roadside Assistance Services are provided by Nation Safe Drivers, 800 Yamato Road, Suite 100, Boca Raton, FL 33431 (except as otherwise noted for your state in the Terms and Conditions). In Texas, the excess wear and use provider is AMT Warranty Corp., 59 Maiden Lane, 43rd Floor, New York, NY 10038."

So...it appears that there really is no direct connection to GM / Chevrolet for ANY of the extended warranties / protection plans / insurance plans etc. Which seems to make it pretty much a crap-shoot.

Unless of course I'm missing something.

Full Disclosure: I purchased the GMEPP from Dennis a few months ago.

Correct, with the shutdown and sale of GMAC several years ago, the new "warranty" is actually administered just like outside insurance policies that are called "warrantees" by an insurance carrier. Their primary obligation is to not pay your claim and to make huge profits for their owners. So there is zero motivation for them to protect GM's good name.

My choice has been to only keep most cars 3 years like the Corvette and my Cadillacs or BMWs or Audis 4 years as they have a year longer factory warranty.

I sell a lot of these and I will say the majority of my customers at least get the cost of the warranty back over the term of the coverage. With the cost of the electronics (modules, displays, gauge clusters, etc) alone, one claim can easily be more than what the warranty cost if purchased early in the car's life.

Extending power train coverage isn't a bad ideal either with how many torque tube related issues we've seen recently.

Send me an email or PM if you'd like a quote. I only need the VIN, current mileage and date you purchased the car (if purchased used) and I can give you several options.

My email is in contact info

I second Black Cadillac. I purchased my GMEPP from them. Their price was competitive and everything was done over the phone and internet AND no sales tax.
