I would never use steel wool no matter how many zeros it has. I use warm water and some car wash soap. Once clean of bugs and bird doo doo I clay bar it and clean with Invisible Glass. Once you get a few costs of IG applied that's all you will need.
You can buy a bug scrubber that will also work on paint without scratching at WalMart. It is a sponge covered with a mesh material.
I use it on the nose,hood & windshield on all my cars.

Rejex is great, been using it for 6 years. I do the whole car glass and all. Used Collinite on the boat ONCE. It yellowed and was almost impossible to remove.
I like to keep a light coat of wax on the windshield and all the windows for that matter. It makes cleanup easier and works like rain-x on the crazy off chance I get caught in the rain while traveling.
