Default Overheating?

I have a new problem. I have a 2014 Z51 MN7. It has about 51,000 miles on it. Recently, the water temperature gauge will rise from 220 to about 260-270 and then go right back down. The whole cycle takes only about 2-3 seconds. The needle sweeps like the second hand of a clock. Same thing happens when I switch to display the water temperature in the center screen, so I don't think it's a problem with the mechanical temperature gauge on the right of the IP.

What do you think? Sensor?

Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone else replaced the sensor? If so, how much did it cost?

Thanks.

With that many miles check your coolant level. But do this put the front of the car so it is about 3 plus inch's above the rear. Start the car pull the coolant cap off then put the A/C full blast let it get up to temp. So the coolant is moving thur the system. Then keep adding what ever you put into the car until it will not take no more.

Put the cap back onto it place but also keep a eye on the temp in this also.. These c7 is really bad if it just a very small air pocket in the system it will do this. Robert
