I'm an engineer with 2 Master's degrees and my personal opinion is it's made to keep the rear glass cleaner at all speeds and also to eliminate brake dust completely.
Seriously it doesn't seem to me to have any aerodynamic benefit whatsoever. It actually appears that it would disrupt any aerodynamic benefit as it will split the airstream coursing over the rear deck to soon, thus compromising downforce and negating the original aerodynamic design of the coupe. The ZR-1 spoiler would look to do the same thing but it is farther in the rear and it also depends on the angle of attack the spoiler has into the airstream.
But if the owner likes it, ok but you know the saying "go ugly early".

Put that spoiler on your car and post a picture here since you think it’s so great.
Now who is retarded? I never said I liked it, did I? I said I was curious on the reasoning behind it and wondered if some engineer would be willing to tackle it. All I got so far is a professional engineer who called it retarded. Just how professional an opinion is that? I don't know, but I'm guessing he put about half a second of thought into his opinion.
I would never put something like that on my car. In fact, given the type of driving most of us do, i.e.: No track days at all, having a spoiler at all is questionable. In fact, the only reason I have a spoiler at all is because it came bundled with MSRC so I was forced to take it. I consider it useless. Now they have unbundled it so a new car with the exact same equipment is now cheaper than I paid. If I happened to see that thing at a car show the first thing I would do is walk up to the owner and ask him why he did that. Why did he go to the expense? What thinking is behind the design? But I see that curiosity here has, indeed, left the building.

Why is it that lot's of these threads devolve into personal assaults and dick measuring contests? Maybe we just need a forum for "How big is Your Dick" debates?

I'm with you. I had a feeling it would turn into this.

It appears to be bolted to the hatch so it should open normally. With the added weight I would not want to be under it unless the owner added beefed up struts.

Why does someone have to be curious as to what that wing does in order to give an opinion as to the way it looks? The OP put the pic up just to show off what he thought was an ugly wing, no one cares as to the purpose of it and that's not the point of the post. I think you're avatar pic is ugly but I'm not curious as to why you have it. Why is it that a lot of posts you make you come off as an arrogant ***? Even if the wing makes that car faster it's still ugly. Just because people aren't curious about something doesn't mean people are dumb or ignorant, which is pretty much what you are implying even though you are going to try to spin it another way I'm sure.
