Earlier models had problems with the crossover leaking...The C7 has a problem with the left fuel tank cracking where the fuel pump inserts into the tank...
Was a C6 issue. Not sure if it was for particular years.
Haven't heard of it being a problem for C7's. (damn I hope not).
Cannot believe it either but just received my letter. Had a letter for my C6 also and never had a problem in 74K miles.
Certainly didn't expect to get a letter when I went C7!

Reason: clarify

It's not the tank that is the problem. It's the fuel sending unit module and the seal. I know because my car had this issue and was repaired by dropping the tanks and replacing the module. Big job. Took 2 weeks.

C6's had cracks forming in an elbow fitting atop the fuel pump.
A LOT of confusion about this due to GM's weirdly-worded letter. And FYI -- so far, the issue is limited to 2014-early/mid 2017's (late 2017's seem to be exempt)
However, it is NOT a recall. A "recall" is where they say a part is defective (or likely to be) and asks the owner to bring the car in for repair.
This is just a warranty extension program, where GM thinks a part *may* fail, so they are extending the warranty on that particular part ONLY. There is no request to bring the car in for proactive replacement of the part.
So, if you bring your car in, and want that part replaced under this program, but it is NOT leaking, GM will NOT replace the part "just because of the letter". That is what makes it different than a "recall", and that is why the program is not likely to be listed on a "recall" website.

Sorry, it’s true. I believe up through 2016. Folks are receiving letters from gm re: fuel tank leak issues. Passive recall and warranty extension on THAT issue.
Mercedes Benz issued a 10-year / 150,000 mile powertrain warranty on 1999s provided you switched to 100% synthetic engine oil, and continued changing @ prescribed FSS 15,000 mile intervals.

What if is leaking and start your car and catches fire. Everything gone and could be the complete house. Then will they make a recall?
I received my letter Friday for my 2016 z51, I'm glad because I was about to pay a shop to drop the tank and replace the fuel pump cause I though it was bad, I smell fuel when I fill up and my engine light comes on with a code for low fuel pressure. Didn't know why I was getting a fuel smell when I filled up so I stopped filling it and was only putting in 10 gallons at a time. Now I know why
