Great let us know with a pic if possible. I'll add to my upper dash pad replacement PDF.
Would think for folks where the warranty has expired it would be an inexpensive alternative to a new dash. Expect as C7s age, we'll see more issues. If the black is too thin, fender welting (used on old cars) comes in black leather (or vinyl) and in several thicknesses. Google "fender welting" in image search and find one that looks good and following link to source.
PS: Followed my own advice and found this source of fender welting in colors! Also found Porsche uses it called piping. Interesting for $6 they offer a kit with 1.5 inches of all colors!
so posed about this dash issue. Mine did the same thing and was out of warranty 3 months. Only has 19k on it. Emailed GM and even the CEO of GM. Was contacted by the executive office and told they would look into it. After multiple calls about the status without a call back, they called told me to pound sand.
Done with GM products. You would think all of us would make enough noise for them to care. Way to snub a niche market.

I don't know if you are a young man but anyone who has had dealing with GM through the many many years should know that they have never backed their customers. Years ago my father in law purchased a new GM car with valor seats. The front seats buckled and wrinkled like a dishrag. Only 8 months old. They told him that he wore them out and go pound sand. That has always been their attitude. No surprise there. The A8 Transmission defect is a horror. GM should take those cars back and junk them instead of tearing apart someones brand new car. In fact someone should be jailed for this. Selling a defective product. All the A8s are made the exact same so who knows if they are ticking time bombs. One breaks with 5000 miles other may break with 40,000 miles. Gotta love GM. Yes maybe some may get satisfaction but not many.

Not defending GM BUT if you go through the proper channels you'll have a better chance of getting a positive resolution!
As I noted in my Post #36 I got a clutch plate covered on warranty on a Chevy some years ago (not formally covered even on that 6 month old car.) I also got my AC condenser covered on my C6 Corvette (it had a hole and was not covered by GM as it could be caused by a rock -actually reasonable.) In both cases I asked the dealer service manager to bring the situation up with the GM area tech rep who visit periodically! For the AC condenser I brought the defective part home (since I paid $800 for the replacement) and found with a little bit of investigation it had been dropped prior to the install and that "hole" occured from the inside! I got my full $800 back!
Had another situation with my Datsun 260Z, where a month after the warranty was up I blew a hole in the differential! I paid about $1000 to replace it, which in today's dollars versus 1970's was probably $2500! In that case it did require a letter to Japan! I was fortunate I had a Japanese engineer and a Met Lab so the documentation as to the suspected cause was excellent. That along with a comment in the 260Z Service Manual that reinforced the argument as to cause got all my money back!
Bottom Line the dealer service department is key. If they reject your claim ask to bring the car in when the GM area service rep visits. That is who can make the decision. Now if in that 19,000 miles the car was parked often in the hot sun with the windows closed and the whole upper dash pad was cracked etc, can't expect GM to cover a replacement! Best get a sun shade, at least in SC where I live!

My September 2013 built Z51 c7 was back to the dealers twice. The first time was to have the dif fluid level checked per a GM request. It was fine! The second was a seat belt software update. Sold it after 3 1/2 years-couldn't ask for a better car.
Bought my current Grand Sport ~14 months ago. Was at the dealer after 400 miles to have my alignment set where I wanted all on GM's dime! Recently had the MRC upgrade perform, which was the only other time! It has also been perfect!
Have to be careful on the Forum! Folks who have problems are vocal. Some that don't say little!
PS: This thread is like most- about 25 folks have posted (it shows 50 posts BUT most who posted did that more than once- like me!) It shows there were ~2300 folks who viewed the Thread. That's typical. I often post on some threads not for the vocal few who posted (some who are convinced they are right and would not listen to my logic anyway!) but for the silent majority!
What is the real problem is that the C6 4LT had bad fuel tanks and the bad dash. I'm leaning to not buying GM in the future. Things break but the same old crap.
I've been leaning that way since 1982...
Only jumped in on the Vette because it was my last lifetime dream to fulfill. I'm older and wiser than in 1982, the last time I purchased an American car due to the same GM BS you read here everyday. I helped start the Lemon law in CA and I'm not afraid to use it again. Go on the Lexus Discussion board and see if you have to deal with stupidity like this. The Answer is NO.
I can take GM's stupidity these days and if it gets too bad, I'll just get my Attorney involved. I don't really care the cost, I will hold them accountable this time!!!!
Just Wondering, other than the 3LT dash being leather is there any difference between the 3LT and 2LT dash? If I had to replace mine and GM would not take care of it why not go with the 2LT rather than the 3LT as the dash itself should be cheaper (not real leather) and it should not happen again.
I'm sure I've read here where some owners have had these issues fully covered. Besides, it's a know issue prone to 3LT interiors so don't see how they can not cover it. You would thing for the extra $5000+they charge for the leather over and above the 2LT they would at least give you a warranty.
Honestly, I don't know why anyone would want a 3LT especially at the cost and issues.
Love my 3LZ dash but feel bad for people having problems with theirs!

Update: I have the car back and the dashboard has been replaced.
Casualties of the repair:
Center screen on infotainment was scratched (replaced by dealer with a new one before I picked it up)
Minor damage to arm rest and gauge surround (both will be replaced by dealer)
Total cost to me was around $700. GM covered half under CPO. Dealer that sold me the car a few months prior, split the difference on the remaining cost (before tax).
I'm happy that I did it, sad that I had to go through it. Time to drive.
