Does anyone know if you do not have navigation on the C7 ,but you use it on your phone USING Android play if the Map shows up on your HUD display ALSO?

I don't have NAV and it certainly displays from my iPhone. (Sorry can't answer for Android as I switched just before I got the Grand Sport.) It's great! The voice comes over the car's sound system as well.
Works great with iPhone without NAV.
Much better than the Garmin I had mounted in my Cubby.
The question is ill formed. Nobody can show *maps* in the HUD. The HUD, as nice as it is, does not do graphical maps even with the factory nav. What it does do is display when a turn is up coming. The factory nav does that. Neither AA nor CP display turn by turn directions in the HUD (). I've been told that AA has the ability to display turn by turn in the HUD iff the system responds to AA that it has turn by turn in the HUD capability. Sadly MyLink does not inform AA that it can do this so AA doesn't try.
Additionally, 2014 and 2015 C7s lack the hardware to support AA or CP. 2016's can support it if you've gotten the firmware update that used to be provided free of charge for about a year but now you have to pay for it.
You know the full map never shows up in the HUD even with the Nav option, right?
All you get is a turn indicator about a quarter mile before the turn. And only with the built-in Nav, not using Waze or whatever nav app is on your phone. That information is only displayed on the Infotainment screen.

The actual map never shows up in the HUD no matter what you use. If you are asking if CarPlay or AA make arrows show up in the HUD like the built-in navigation does the answer is no. You get the map displayed on the nav/radio display, audio alerts, and that's it.

My point was that as I understand it, it *IS* doable, *IF* GM gets off it's *** and updates the firmware simply to say "Hey I can do turn by turn in the HUD". Then, at least AA, would send the necessary signals to have that happen. I also believe that some other version of MyLink, perhaps in another car (Malibu?) has been known to do this successfully (<- Not as sure about that one).
I have no idea how one might contact those in power in GM to petition (read: plead) that GM provide this "fix".
Ok Thanks don't really see why anyone would spend the money for navigation and then pay more to upgrade the maps down the road
I'm not positive if later model C7's have the hardware such that there is no factory Nav but you can still use say AA or CP. I have the factory Nav and on rare occasions I will use it. What kinds of rare occasions? Well if I'm out hiking and my phone pretty much runs out of juice or I had not thought to download offline maps ahead of time then I can always switch to the factory Nav to get home.
Apple announced yesterday that in the next version of iOS you will be able to run apps in Car Play so you will have access to Google Maps, Waze, etc.
CORRECTION: You will not be able to run ANY app in CarPlay with iOS 12 coming this fall. Apple, yesterday, announced support for 3rd party navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze which means you don't have to use Apple Maps for navigation but the pool of apps that is available in CarPlay is still very limited. I.e. no Facebook, Safari, etc.

If your using Faceplant and Safari while driving in your car chances are high that you are violating the law and are a danger to society. Over in the Google product forums for AA there's always a request for AA to allow the playin of YouTube videos! Are you kidding me! You're driving! Keep your eyes on the road! (And yeah the excuse of "well the passenger is watching it" doesn't wash with me).

You can go 3, 5, 7 years, or forever and not ever see the need to upgrade the map. It's not like they move cities around or anything. You will spend 5x more money upgrading to new cell phones. Over the past five years I bought one NAV upgrade disk for $160.

They don't move cities but they sure do reroute streets, build new highways and off ramps.
Your comparison with cell phones is not exactly valid. It would be if the only thing I use my cell phone for is maps. But I use it as a phone, time keeper, banking, tracks my hours at work for billing purposes, texting people, visiting lots of sites like, for example, meetup.com, listening to podcasts/music, interacting with my Nest home thermostat, Google Home/Assistant, audio books, reading email, making payments/tap and pay, looking up contacts, taking pictures/videos, calendar things, hell tuning my guitar. And yes, navigation through AA and GM with real time updates and traffic re-routing. When your factory nav and occasional updates can do the same then we can talk.
