I have seen red stripes around the wheel edge on Black Wheels. is this a decal or is it some kind of plastic guard> I also saw it as an option that Chevy offered but was an extra 1k
Bought a set of C7Z OE Red Stripe from Bob at House of Wheels, looks painted to me, not sure how it could be plastic guard, whatever that is, as a very narrow groove.
Based on that, I would think a steady hand could paint the groove any color to match exterior and get a great mod at a very low price.

I used 1/4 inch red vinyl pinstripe tape from Autozone. Steady hand and looks great. Nice price too I think I spent 4 dollars and can remove it if I tire of it.
It could have been any of the three options you mentioned. The GM option has a groove around the wheel and the red is painted in the groove (also available as yellow). It can be done on the non-grooved wheels with tape (your "decal"). See Rimstripes by Tapeworks for example. Third, it can be a plastic guard. See Rimblades for example.

I used Stripe it All by Tapeworks. AWESOME product. Had mine on about 18 months, still looks like brand new. They make about 90 colors too, and 3 different widths. I used 1/4" wide. They make a hand tool to install it with as well...... super simple. I think my total cost for the tool, and the tape was about $50.
