I have a Range and like it and am curious if it is in fact a permanent fix, knowing nothing is permanent but taxes and death, LOL. One would think if you render the TC inoperable via the Range, then you should never have an issue with it, am I wrong in this thinking??? Does the TC still function somewhat even with the Range???

The short answer, Yes the TC is an integral part of the transmission and is always working. The TC gets into trouble when the engine switches to V4 mode. In V4 mode the engine runs rough . To dampen the roughness in V4 mode the TCC ( torque converter clutch) locks up then unlocks in a very rapid cycle. The Range device has software that prevents the engine from switching into V4 mode therefore no more TCC cycling . In V8 mode the TCC locks up at the appropriate point and does not cycle between locked and unlocked.......
It's the "is possible" part that worried me when I had my A8. If the TC fix didn't hold after the warranty expiration I'm in for an expensive tab, and an extended warranty would've been the rule had I kept the car. I shouldn't feel the need to spend $$$$ like that for a problem I didn't create, so I moved on. M7 was and is my salvation.
I bought an additional 6 year warranty for $1800, so I am covered until 2024. Hope it's figured out by then!!
Although Range AFM seems to be the current solution for many people.
By the way, have you seen the cost of clutch replacement for the manual? It's WAY more expensive than $1800.
It's approximately 24 hours labor. My local dealership (Jimmie Johnson in San Diego) quoted: "$3500 for parts and labor to install a clutch in a Z51 C7".
Hopefully, you won't need one for a while.

I had a 2013 gs got a letter to have the wire to headlight fix. this was a problem with the run of the c6.they could not fix a wire. Good luck on the TC. that why it got a 2018 m7 gs. I hope that can fix your car this time.

I think there is still some pulse width modulation that occurs in V8 mode, but it should last a lot longer without V4.
I unplugged my Range yesterday because the car was going to the dealer . I noticed the fluctuation in the tach for the first time. Was driving me nuts!! I left the dealership plugged it back in problem gone. Mine has been running with the range for all but probably 150 miles and yesterday was the first problem with the tach. Car only has 2000 miles on it

Wow- pretty crazy it's having issues at only 2000 miles. Which year do you have?
Sounds like you will be keeping the Range plugged in!!!

OMG, that's scary, but I'm easy on clutches and don't see this in my short-term plans.

It is a 2017 Z51. I know I was surprised that it was doing it. The last trip to the Dealer it was not. They fixed the issue with the Ranges draining the battery and throwing CEL's so I can leave it plugged in. Wasn't sure if I should have them do the triple flush and just plug it back in after I leave or not. Might wait til it gets close to be out of coverage
