Is it just me or does anyone else hate the fact that the hidden stereo compartment has a button in the open that says screen up/Down to me this needs to be a blank area that can be pushed that only the owners know of. everyone talks about a concealed hand gun or wallet or money or phone can go in there, which is great but then there is button right there that says push me. Has anyone made a cover of this or anything like that? just asking. maybe it is just the James bond in me that wants it hidden.
Can't say that it really bothers me all that much to be honest. There is a way you can lock it so that only you can open it with your own code. Don't get me to lying though....I think you would have to check the owners manual. I have only opened my screen once or twice in nearly 4 years and have never stored anything in there. I do think it is cool though.

It's not just you. I thought the same thing. Great minds think alike. LOL
It doesn't bother me. I wouldn't even think of leaving valuables in an unattended car. Even if the button was hidden, any halfway decent car thief generally knows the secrets of most vehicles they target.
I can't say it bothers me. I toss my radar detector in it when I park as well as my sunglasses. I haven't tried it but assume it won't open without the FOB.

Valet mode locks the screen cubby and the glovebox. However, I agree a pro would get around it pretty easily. I try not to leave anything valuable in the car, however I agree I don't like to carry a radar detector into a restaurant with me...
Having a storage area behind the screen is a Novelty, not a Safe; it can be defeated with a small screwdriver by prying down the top of the screen. Carrying a gun locked up in a car is nothing more than a placebo; how many bad guys are going to honer "Please wait just a moment while I rummage through my hidden compartment behind my Nav-screen to get my gun"!
Ok first I don't keep anything in the compartment valuable I don't own a gun my point why make it hidden and then place a button next to it. Maybe I am just looking at it as a hidden compartment when it really is not hidden. just the only place to put it.
I think it's a storage place, i don't think GM intended it to be "hidden"..
If GM wanted it to be a super secret hidden location, they would have placed the button in a less obvious location and marked it "AUX" or something similarly innocuous.

True, and not just vehicles either. When I had my auto parts stores I went outside to help a guy (had an engine noise, seemed nice enough even if a little sketchy looking) he looks at my arm and says "man, nice looking Rolex"; I replied with "thanks, but just a knock-off!" He says "don't BS me, I can tell the real thing from a fake from across a room".
Well that was the last day I wore my Rolex to work. Good thing too as we had an armed robbery about 90 days later.

Since there isn't a whole lot of extra real estate in a C7 cabin for storage, IMO it was an inspired way to get an additional small glove box with slightly improved security...
The compartment behind the screen reminds me of the hidden compartment in my S2000...
it took me a few months to figure out that it was there. It is not obvious at all.
in the vette, I use the compartment to charge my phone since there is a usb in there. Also have one of these..
It does come in handy, the shelf creates more usable space in the "secrets compartment".
Someone could make a button cover that says something different :-)
It's more annoying to me that sometimes I press it instead of the start button. More annoying is when I press the start button when I mean to hit the storage button.

Ditto. Having killed the engine learning about the C7 "mush clutch", I hit the SCREEN button trying to restart the engine, predictably opening the compartment while the RPM remained silently at ZERO...
IMO a better design would have swapped the radio on/off/volume **** for the screen button.

I agree 100% ... I have a great lifestyle supported by people who leave valuables in their cars ... no I am not a thief , I just fix the broken glass lol lol
