So how do you know they are bent? Is it visual? I did that same trip to BG from Chicago to Indy on that same rotten I65. So can I assume mine are bent also? What’s the telltale sign? However I keep my tires 4 lbs over inflated to keep this from happening.
Spin them on a tire balancer and look for "hop" along the rim, or "wobble" from the front/rear.
For more precision, mount a stick or laser to give a reference point to the rim.
The Hunter Road Force Balancer will detect many directions of bend, but I don't know if it can detect everything.
BTW, if I buy a set of wheels used or new, I have the shop spin them first before mounting the tires. Easier to deal with the problem before you have tires involved. Been there, done that.

if anything, the 4psi over will aggravate the problem. from most of what i have seen the inside barrel gets bent more than outside/center section. the large diameter of the rims combined with the stiff run-flat side walls makes it easy to " egg" shape the inner barrel. my car had all 4 rims bent like that. easily detected visually by spinning the wheels while car is on a lift. vibration will vary with how bad bend is and also speed.
Does anyone know if this bending is happening to all GS and ZO6 wheels or just the painted ones.
I bent both wheels on the left side and ripped a tire on I-24 just south of Louisville this summer. Today I find out my right rear is not only bent at the hub but is cracked and can't be repaired.
May have to look for new wheels before we leave for Florida next month and the Rolex 24 hour race. A bit nervous about driving from west of St. Louis to Florida on these GM wheels.
Not all Discount Tire stores have the equipment and people that can do these tires. They don't in my area. People tend to make assumptions about them but it's just not accurate. They ripped the bead removing my rear pss 335 attempting a free repair (a nail in it). They also scratched up the rim as well. They bought me a new tire and I took it to a place that could do it. There are other stories like mine, not a ton, but it happens. It's best to do your homework and pick a place that does these tires every day. The place I go to has a Corghi touchless tire machine. Also a state of the art Corghi balancer .
Pete01, I don't know far you are from Orland Park, but the Discount Tire at about 9300 West 159th Street has done tires on 2 of my Corvettes. They took meticulous care with both. They have also done tires on my BMW 540i, and my Wife's Hyundai. Always pleased with their work and prices.
Having meticulas care in their DNA is not usually part of a tire installers motivation... While I respect anyone doing this entry level job.. there are not enough caring and devoted to their job pride as would be needed to insure that you actually get one of these people.. Tire installers are usually doing this job as their first attempt to wiork and most to not look at it as a life career.
