Without any engineering data to support a recommendation, most of what you are going to get back in feedback is just seat of the pants speculation. You might be giving up 5-10 hp going with the smaller dia --- or you might not (depends) --- even so, are you really going to miss it? the only time that would really be a real issue is at WOT (drag strip). Consider the following:
From a functional point of view, think about heat evaluation with minimum back pressure being a first or primary priority concern. Second priority concern might be difficulty of installation with 2 in vs 1 7/8 in. If you have ever installed headers on anything, you will know what I mean. Tube dimensions, mandrel bends are all larger on bigger diameter headers, physical space requirements for clearance and positioning are a bigger problem, etc. Bottom line: installing the larger headers can be a real big pain, possibly even calling for repositioning of other hardware, wiring, etc, first to proceed. Third priority concern is whether you are going to have the headers ceramic coated or wrapped before installation to facilitate hot exhaust gas evacuation out and minimize heat radiation under hood.

You are going to get answers going both ways on this one.
Lots and lots of discussion over the years.
I think it depends on the part that has failed.

The Tune you need, will void your warranty if submitted to GM for approval.
Each dealer is somewhat different.
Some dealers won't do anything if the car has been modified...
My local dealer could not care less what you do to the car for most stuff, never had anything declined
However
If it was something like a catastrophic engine failure/trans/computer failure, you can bet your bottom dollar when they submit
it to GM for approval, it will get declined if the tune on the car has been changed...
