Default Hot?

Just curious. Does the C7 run hotter than "normal" cars?
I ask because I can feel the heat radiating from the motor when I'm next to it. Do I feel it more because of the huge vent on the hood or it it actually hotter than a normal car?

Temps are no different than any other car as far as I can tell. I do believe that the venting or design of the car on the Corvette does make it more noticeable when standing next to the car.

LS/T engines run a bit hotter in terms of water temp than some other engines.

The interior of the corvette gets stupidly hot. I have to run the AC at a much colder temp than in any other car I have owned.

100* temps here in Houston. Car runs at 201* on the freeway. I have to set my AC to 72-73 or I get frozen out. I expected much higher engine temps and am pleasantly surprised. Most of the time the car runs in the 190s.

The only time mine hit 200 was after 8 passes on the drag strip in 88 degree weather. However, the way my gauges are fixed I can see 2 temp gauges and they rarely read the same. Don't know which one to believe but both are in the normal range.

They really don't run hotter but remember, you have a 6.2 liter V8 with little insulation around it because that adds weight and you're comparing it to a 2 or even a 3.5 liter engine. Just the engine mass alone will radiate more heat outward. But the operating temps are almost all the same with every other internal combustion engine. Just saying.

Thanks. I guess I was just being a wee bit paranoid. I've only owned it for a month ('15 Z51) and still learning.

I've noticed running the AC all the time helps keep water temp down because the fan is running most if not all of the time when AC is on. My brother has noticed this in his C5 Z06 also.

Generally, all cars today run coolant temps between 195F and 225F...the days of 180F being "normal" went away about 30 years ago.....

Mine has run 208° to 210° since day 1 according to the digital gauge in Tour Mode. The analog gauge always reads about 220°.

Yesterday it was 101 in Dallas I was out running around most of the day in traffic. Temp never went above 198. Once back on the freeway running at steady speeds it settled down to where it generally runs - 194.

My 2016 z 51 ran at 205 water , 195 oil . 70 to 75 degrees air . I was concerned . This is what i did . Z06 grill , relocated the licence plate , Stow and show relocation kit , Heat shield on drivers side cat to keep the oil to water heat exchanger cooler . Corsa mid pipe . GM cleaner kit , Removed the plastic shroud on the top of the radiator . Now it runs 180 oil ,180 water in 85 degree air .It still runs 200 to 205 in stop and go traffic . Temp comes right down once you get moving . Hope this helps . I love Corvettes . dk.

When cruising on the highway at 65-70, even on a 90 degree day, my coolant temp sits around 185-190 most of the time. Even in my Civic, which has a Scangauge to show the exact coolant temp, I typically see it run about 175-180F on the highway in the summer.

Driving either of those cars harder will elevate the coolant temp higher, obviously, but I rarely see them approach 225.
