Default Spring Mountain was AMAZING!

I just got back from Ron Fellows School at Spring Mountain and I wanted to take a moment to not only share the experience, but to express my thanks to the members on here who’s posts pushed me over the edge into going!

For those considering going, I doubt you’ll find a better experience. The facility is absolutely top notch. The cars are well maintained and despite daily use on the track, they’re in great shape. The condos on property are extremely clean and well kept. The food provided was pretty good in my opinion, but food is pretty subjective. For dinner we ended up going to the winery in Pahrump as it was VERY highly recommended. Last and most certainly not least, the staff are amazing. All the instructors have prior racing experience, are very patient and thorough with drivers of all skill level, and know what they’re doing. One of my instructors was actually an Indy 500 driver. My biggest take aways we’re driving technique and a new found trust in my Corvette. The car is simply an amazing machine! My friend who drives an Evolution X went along for the experience and I think I’ve turned him into a closet Vette fan!!!

To every member who has shared their experience as I just have, THANK YOU. I hope my experience can help others as well. That said, if anyone attends and says they were referred by a previous attendee, the previous attendee gets a gift card to use toward future classes..... so whether it be me or anyone else on the forum, let’s hook each other up! PM if you would like my info.

OP - glad you pulled the trigger and made the effort and join the Spring Mountain chorus! It's far easier to bypass such an opportunity, considering their location ("Just where the hell is Pahrump!?"). Before the Spring Mountain facility was built, their major attractions were drinking, gambling and hookers. The Ron Fellows team have certainly created the automotive version of "Build it and they will come."
The physical facility and amenities are excellent, but where Spring Mountain truly stands out is in the quality of the instruction. I have spent most of my adult life receiving and providing education and training at varying levels of college and the aviation industry, and place them on the short list of the best training I have received. I can attest that finding individuals who are technically competent and have the DESIRE, ABILITY and PERSONALITY to instruct is a high bar, and the seven instructors assigned to our class were top notch in all respects. Importantly, they stuck to the curriculum like industrial strength Velcro, which improves student learning and retention by minimizing confusing inputs from various instructors.
Kudos to the Ron Fellows folks!

I went the end of July last year. Had a blast. I was planning on the level 2 class this summer but they're using manual trans only. My knee would be killing me after the first session and I refuse to drive under medication.

When I was there last June, we hit a high of 117 degrees. There were no overheating issues whatsoever (although some of the A8 Z06s had to rest for a moment). You just hit the track with the A/C on full blast, and the instructors were very cognizant and accommodating of the heat. My one little gripe: Sure wish they had an ice machine in the classroom building. Here's a tip - Fill your water bottle with ice during the meal breaks.

The OP hit it on the head. One of the best experiences of my life.

In addition to their vehicles, do you get a chance to drive your own vehicle?

Yes, but as the saying goes, "It's a DRY heat!" ... Despite temps being north of 110 degrees during my class in June, many of the owners from the east and south commented that with Nevada's single digit humidity, the mugginess of Houston, New York, Chicago or Atlanta were far worse. Additionally, the program is run so well that the actual time spent baking in the sun is minimized, and as posted, once in the car, it's WINDOWS UP, AC ON FULL BLAST!, and the cabin temperature is comfortable by the time you're on the track...
To minimize the impact of the heat, SM runs the summer classes from 0700-1500, avoiding the hottest part of the day, and as an incentive, they offer an additional night in the condo, plus an SD card to record track time and a buffet dinner on the first night. Overall, a winning proposition!

Not as part of the owner's program, but they match the vehicle you drive to your configuration, so am unsure what would be gained driving your car on the track, other than playing your music during the run..

I head there for the Aug 29-30 class, and am downright excited about it. Lots of great reviews, and I hope my time there is as great as yours was. Taking a buddy along with me who's a long-time Ford afficianado, so looking to work that conversion magic to make him a Vette fan.

I just got back this afternoon after finishing yesterday. Were we in the same class, the Corvette Owners school?

Also, I totally agree with your comments. What an amazing experience. The facility is great and the instructors are even better. Everyone needs to try this at least once. I'm heading back as soon as I can.

If you go to the Corvette Owner's School, a spouse or S/O is included in the price, as well as for breakfast and lunch at the Clubhouse. They can also sit in on class and get rides on track with an Instructor.

I went the first week of July. It was absolutely awesome and completely worth it! Top notch all around. The lead follow format on track really works. The course mix of classroom, exercises, and then on full track is well thought out and well geared to get you going fast safely and actually improve your skills and trust in the vehicle. To me, that last part was key. These cars are amazing. The staff are all not just great drivers but great teachers. I highly recommend this course, and being able to let GM pay 2/3rds is even better. Yes, us Z06 A8 guys had some heat issues, but a proactive cool down lap fixed it and wasnt too much of a problem. The seat cooler was really nice to have. ALSO, beyond the driving, you will learn a ton of technical stuff about the car itself.
