So I've been a car geek my entire life and spend at least 1 - 2 hours a day reading car articles or being on this forum.
I just learned today that every car has a little triangle next to the gas gauge icon. It points in the direction of the gas cap. Useful info for when driving a rental or some buddy's car. I can't believe I just discovered this today.

RELATED SHAGGY DOG STORY:
Reminds me of my 1st car a '41 Ford coupe that I stuffed in a '50 Olds engine. No way that 6 volts system would start that big block (well it was a big block in the day as I had it bored 1/8 inches for '55 pistons! ) A company I town sold 6/12 and 12/24 volt batteries (mostly the 12/24 for trucks.) It was essentially two 6 volt batteries that had a solenoid on top that when starting put the batteries in series and you had 12 volts to turn the starter. Turns out 12 volts on a 6 volt starter works fine for a short crack! Therefore all lights and gauges operated on the 6 volt system in the car. The solenoid switched to put them in parallel for running and charging.
Now the reason for posting. The gas gauge read backward! Not sure why but was not going to take the dash apart to find out. AND thought it was a great antitheft device! Although working part time when in high school, which paid for the car etc, had little money for gas so was always running close to empty! But the gauge read almost full! If someone stole the car they would run out of gas!

Don't feel bad. The day I picked up my vette from the dealer, I thought I was close to empty based on the gauge being the opposite of most others . I kept pumping gas in with no luck. Turns out it was full LOL...

And now every driver in America knows this!
No, seriously, thanks for the reminder. I am sure a lot of people actually don't know.

srsly, maybe red-green color blind? Can you see the red coloring on the 0 side? Or just didn’t look?
Just like the rocker on/off switch on some of my power equipment O/1 So does that O mean OFF, or ON? In my binary world during my IT career 0 was off, 1 was on.
WTF? That Corvette gas guage reading backwards from every other vehicle I have ever owned, including my C6, confused me the first time I looked at it. I forget when I
first figured out the triangle thingy and I recall having a "DUH" moment when I did figure it out.
2-3 years ago, I read about the triangle on the gas gauge in an online 'what is that' article. Hmm? Mind you, I got my first car for my 16th birthday. JFK was President then. Went immediately to the garage and found it on the F150 and C7. Sent an email to my brother who had no clue either. But looked at his Jaguar and voila. So I've had a lot of cars in the last 55 years and until maybe 2014-15 had no idea. Hadn't noticed it. Other than curiosity still don't much care. Guess it might enlighten me with a rental car? An interesting factoid that is as interesting that it remains a new revelation for someone everyday.
