Does anyone know what the interior side trim on the targa top is for? Some have this and some do not. Looks like it was added in the 2016 model year.
My first guess is to help stiffen the top from making noise.
Some tops come with 3 holes on each side so a interior side panel can be installed over the regular side, what is this redundant side panel for? stiffener?

Reason: add picture
I don't think that plastic trim cover, for the interior side rails, adds any stiffness to the cast magnesium roof frame. My guess it was added for looks, or maybe to reduce the impact Gs of a crash-test dummy's head against the bare metal frame.

Its at the dealer today to swap out for an exposed carbon fiber roof, he said he thought it was for an option that could be added, he will let me know and I will post answer.
