Talk to the dealer about ordering an M7 but make sure they have an allocation to get a car. You may find they offer just as good of a deal on an ordered car as one on the lot. Basically, if you are interested in an M7 and they don't have any on the lot are they going to let you walk out the door? Just don't act interested in any A8s (no matter the deal) while near the sales person. Let them think you will only want an M7. They may not need to order one they may find one they can do a dealer trade on.

Get a manual. I did and I'm having a ball with it. And it appears you're about 8 hours or so from MacMulikn, where you can most likely get 13% off if ordering a new one, and getting exactly what you want. And they would attempt to help you find a dealer to do a courtesy delivery if you didn't want to drive the new car home. They were a pleasure to deal with for me. Good luck. I say get the manual shift, regardless of the deal you make. You'll find yourself wanting to drive the car around aimlessly, just so you can mow through the gears. Just my opinion of course

Lots of good feedback here guys; thanks.

I think I will go with my heart and get the M7 even if a nice deal pops up on an A8. Wife unit is always puzzled why I drive all my automatic sedans like they are manual cars, so I think I need a manual.

Nothing wrong with the auto on these cars, but you sound like me and I know if I bought the A8 I would always be thinking M7. GOOD CHOICE BUD!

Nope.
It just doesn't work that way. Chev. dealers typically can only discount heavily, C7s that are long in tooth. The manufacturer will only reduce the dealer's cost of C7s IN STOCK as they age.
They're not going to get discounts on ordering a new C7 for the guy, beyond prevailing GM rebates in effect at the time the C7 arrives at the Chev.
dealership. Rebates aren't known until the C7, is delivered. He needs to find a discount dealer upon ordering one.

There's only been regrets here on forum, from some members that bought automatics. None from M7 members. That should tell you something.

I made the mistake of buying an auto on my 1st new Corvette, a C3, 42 years ago. It was a great deal. Lol! Never again.

I test drove the automatic and it did not do anything for me, even the paddles. Kind of boring. To me the standard was a better driving experience. But you can tell from my name I am biased. I ended up ordering with a 12% discount from a local dealer. Just shop around and make them aware you are shopping other dealers. One will fight for your business. Good luck.

I also ordered my Corvette from my local favorite dealer and he gave me 12 % off MSRP. I was able to order it just the way I wanted which included a M7 transmission. There aren't too many manual Vettes out there to choose from. Also even if you can find an in stock car from the large dealerships at a great price by the time you figure out how to get your car delivered to you the big discount isn't so big anymore.

Earlier, you said you prefer manual. Since manual is your preference, I would say get that.
Otherwise, it’ll eventually bug you, you’ll start 2nd guessing your decision, and you wont be (as) happy.

For the last 22 years, my commute has about the same as yours - 5 miles or so - residential, school zone, 6 or 7 traffic lights, barely up to temp when you roll into the parking lot....heated seats help during the winter
For 18 of them, I‘be done it in an M6 or M7.
You’ll likely never get out of 3rd gear, but thats OK too. Lots of opportunity to hear the exhaust wind up
(Next week, my commute changes to some 15 miles, but its going to be mostly interstate, fewer lights, so I‘ll get to enjoy a couple twisties and get to use 5th gear)

anyhow, get what your gut likes, not what happens to be on the floor.

If you like manuals then get it. The Tremec 6070 is a great transmission. Probably the best I've owned and I've always bought manuals. It would be nice if it was and M6 so the gates aren't as tight but you get used to it

Try 7th (w/o V4 mode, ugh) on the interstate, it's not as gutless as you might assume, and a quick downshift to 4th will give all the extra power you might need at those speeds.

I used the Costco program for my ordered 2019 M7, and negotiated an extra $2,000 on top of Costco's discount. There were no incentives at the time of delivery.

Get the manual. As someone who has owned 6 cars with the ZF 8AT you will hate the GM 8AT in the Corvette. It is a clunking POS in comparison. I regret buying an auto Corvette most days I drive it.

Buying the current A8 is similar to buying a C6Z. In the back of your mind, you're always going to wonder when the thing will take a dump. For that simple reason, there's no way I would touch an A8 with their current issues.

I ordered my 2019 Z06 M7, 12% discount with little effort. In fact it was the easiest negotiation for a car I have ever experienced

Agreed. I walked in and picked up a 2019 GS off the lot that was made 2 months earlier and get almost exactly 13% off too.
