I notice in the video that he's using just a quick tap on the Start button. If I do that in our 2017, occasionally it will fail to crank but I can't recall what messages, if any, it displays.
I don't need to hold the button in for the entire start sequence, just hold it in for about a second.
Not the press of the start key. The start key works with the FOB in the slot and says no FOB found when it's in his pocket. I tap my start button and it never fails to give a response of some kind.
I have had this issue several times with my 2016 Z, I did all the things you did, then one day, I like you said to myself, what is the deal here. So as I thought about it a bit, took the remote & pressed the lock button on the remote & the car woke up & started as it should. So now when I get the no FOB detected, I hit the unlock or lock button & the car wakes up & works normal. I have no idea why the car does what it does, but my guess the car goes into a deep sleep sometime & just has to be awakened.
1st alternate between fobs so mark one with a small key ring or something else !!! I hold the start button for a couple of seconds !! After I changed my fob batteries I put the fobs each one time in the steering column then the next time I used them I put the fob in my pocket !!! Wayne
I have a brand new 2019 and it has happened to me twice. I get into the car push in the clutch with my foot on the brake and press the start button. I then got the "action required" on the gauge like I didn't have the clutch or brake pressed. I try again and it starts right up. The first time this happened I figured I may not have pushed down on the brake hard enough but I know for a fact the next time it happened I did everything right. I haven't had to put the fob in the slot to start it yet but the two times it happened surprised me since my car is brand new.
I didn't see anything on that video that indicates anything other than a low fob battery.
Usually both fobs lose power somewhat equally, because both fobs are constantly using a very small amount of power "listening." He said that the fob was three years old. He called it "new" because he never used it, but as I said, it's still bleeding power.
The first time he attempted to start it, the fob was in his pocket (he didn't specify which pocket). Was there a phone or a magnet in the pocket? The fob is obviously still recognized by the car, but the second time (not when he put it in the slot) he had the fob out of his pocket, and so it was likely closer to the antenna (on his lap or in the cup holder?). Both low car and fob batteries will shrink the area where the car will "see" a fob.
The other thing thats odd is I never saw a low battery warning on dash for the key fob as stated in manual. Have you seen this???
The manual lists that as a possible message, but the vast majority of folks have never seen or will never see that. Most folks just get the "NO REMOTE DETECTED" message. According to the posts, here, I think it's more common to have the car either see the fob or not see the fob rather than see the fob and see a low battery condition.
