Clunking Noise in Steering
I just purchased my 1st Corvette in October. It is a 2016 Z51 3LT Convertible. When I back up and turn the steering in either direction I hear a clunking sound like the tire is hitting something. It doesn't do it all the time mainly when I first go out and have to back up. When I'm driving and making a turn it doesn't happen. Seems when I have to turn the steering wheel alot. I am taking it into the Chevy dealer this week to find out what the problem might be. Has anyone else had this clunking sound coming from the front when steering?

Not a problem and is common on all C7 Corvettes.
It is due to the wide front tires. Nothing to worry about.
There are a nuber of treads in the C7 section that discuss this issue.
This is C8 section so for more info I suggest you go to C7 forum . Search tire chatter.

Thanks for the info and I see others have posted this problem also. I was concerned it was some major issue but feel more at ease now that it seems to be a common issue.

If this mostly occurs in a wide turn when the tires are cold then it's probably normal. However, if it happens on a turn that's not too wide and the tires are warm then you could have a serious problem. Best to let a dealer test drive it to give you some comfort and also at the same time documenting that the dealer thought it was fine.

Thanks for your response. Yes it only occurs when I back out after it is parked for a while. Otherwise it is fine. It only has 5600 miles so I didn't think anything needed to be replaced already. This seems to be a common problem after reading many posts.
Thanks again
