Yeah, on the M7 it will only show V4 mode when in ECO mode. Don't waste your time with it as tests have shown it doesn't really save much fuel anyway, maybe 1mpg. Just cruise in 7th gear on the highway and be done with it. A8 owners would LOVE if AFM (V4 mode) only engaged in ECO drive mode but unfortunately it is active in all modes with the A8 and many think this is the root cause of the A8 TC shudder issues.
Try running in 6th gear in Eco Mode and see what mileage you get. On my car I found it worked better in 6th gear where the engine stayed in V4 mode Vs switching to V8 mode on every little change in road level. For me it works fine up to the 70-75 mph range and then I do better in 7th. Around town at speeds from 25 to 40 mph driving in 4th and 5th gears the engine runs in V4 mode quite a bit of the time when I am driving at a steady speed.
Now aren't you glad you have an M7? That d a r n V4 mode will only activate on a manual trans car if you are in "eco" mode! Who buys a corvette to drive around in eco mode!
Can come in handy when trying to find a dam gas station when driving out in the boonies where free enterprise doesn't want to place fuel stations.......especially if you're fussy about what gas goes in the 6.2....

My tests consistently show that you only get about 2-3 MPG of benefit (sometimes less). And this is not trying to work the system in say 6th gear, etc. This is just set the A trip odometer, do long drive (I've done San Diego to San Jose and also Phoenix to San Diego). Use Eco mode one way and Sport mode on the way back. Compare MPG numbers. It's always just about 2-3 MPG better on Eco, which to me isn't worth the worry. This is just normal driving. I don't think about it and look at the results afterwards.

"OK Google, where's the closest Shell station"....
