Default V4 indicator on M7

I have all the gauges slaved to Sport Mode view. When I am in ECO on the highway I didn’t notice an indication that showed the engine was in V4 mode. Not sure I felt anything either.

Is there an indication of V4 mode on the Sport Gauge mode? Thanks.

Yes, you can find it on the arrow down keys and push until you see the screen that shows "miles remaining" before your tank runs dry. When you are in ECO, it will go to V4/V8 and give the indication on that screen. Any other mode selected will keep the car in V8 for the M7.

Now aren't you glad you have an M7? That d a r n V4 mode will only activate on a manual trans car if you are in "eco" mode! Who buys a corvette to drive around in eco mode!

There is no M7 V4 indicator. There's only the driving mode selector on your console that gives you the choice of Eco mode. Eco mode allows the engine to automatically cycle freely in and out of V4 mode. Eco mode is then indicated at the bottom in your main DIC panel.

So, you are saying that there isn't a small v4/v8 that changes when the car switches back and forth on the dash? Even if you have the display showing Fuel Range and instant fuel economy on the dash? Is that what you are saying? I don't have the M7 this time in the car, so I have no way of checking. When the M7 is in ECO, there is no way to see if you are V4 or V8?

This screen...
..on an M7 will not show a green V4 where the V8 is showing in the picture?

This is the only place you'll see the V4/V8 indicator (at least in the manual).

Elmer,
I'll have to check more closely. To be honest, I'm so busy watching the road, and shifting, that I haven't ever scrolled through the DIC, while driving. Too dangerous is why.

I'll get back to you. Yes, mines an M7.

I wish GM would've put the indicator in a more global position rather than having go to the Fuel Range screen to see it... maybe near the odometer.

My 2017 M7 Stingray only does the green "V4" thing in Eco Mode when driving at a steady speed on the highway. It gives a small "jolt" when going in or out of the 4cyl mode - not unlike the automatic GM cars of the 1980s equipped with a lockup torque converter.

Personally, I find it kind of disconcerting and wonder in the back of my mind if it is good for the engine to run 4 cylinders (hopefully they alternate which ones) in a "dry" mode with no fuel. Maybe I am way off base - no way to know; but I prefer to just leave the car in "Sport" mode all of the time. It still gets decent MPG for a performance car and I don't drive enough miles to worry about saving gas. (I have a 4cyl Honda Accord for that mission.)

Based upon what others have said, the A8 cars will go into "V4" mode no matter how the driver has the control **** set.

Yeah, on the M7 it will only show V4 mode when in ECO mode. Don't waste your time with it as tests have shown it doesn't really save much fuel anyway, maybe 1mpg. Just cruise in 7th gear on the highway and be done with it. A8 owners would LOVE if AFM (V4 mode) only engaged in ECO drive mode but unfortunately it is active in all modes with the A8 and many think this is the root cause of the A8 TC shudder issues.

I do most of the time, for one. I can't otherwise tell the difference between Eco and Tour.

Eco mode on the M7 just enables AFM mode so during light throttle application you will run in V4 mode. So, you won’t really feel a difference since when you put your foot down it automatically switches to V8 mode.

Does the A8 do something different? It was my understanding that it does the same thing but is active in all modes.

It's there, just as Elmer said (was there in my '14 Z51 and is there in my '19 GS)

(perhaps you should refrain from being so emphatic "YES" to this and "NO" to that.)

Your track record ain't exactly stellar

Correct, same thing but active in all modes on the A8. The issue with the A8 and AFM (v4 mode) is that many feel the AFM is the root cause of the TC shudder issue. That said, many A8 owners wish they could disable AFM by simply putting the car in a different drive mode vs having to purchase a Range device or get the car tuned, which will void warranty. I assume the reason GM did this is for CAFE requirements and gas guzzler workarounds. The M7 gets the annoying skip shift while the A8 gets the AFM in all drive modes except in manual mode with paddle shifting.
