Hi Tim!
It seems opinions vary on what splash guards to use on the C7. It makes me wonder if its worth going to all the aggravation and expense after spending almost $ 90,000 to purchase. One would think GM must be aware of this problem and should man up and have problem corrected at the dealer at their expense. I may have to give this second thoughts about purchasing. Thanks

Ken, please be advised I have not purchased a C7 as yet still on fence, To spend that much money and still have the aggravation of stone chips due to a problem GM could rectify free to owners doesn't make sense to me.

Get a Stingray or ZR1 with some OEM splash guards and side spiltters and you should have no concern. GS and Z06 are more prone to road debris and chips. It's a car, not a piece of glass.

I was going to put side skirts on mine but decided against it because I knew my wife would either get annoyed trying to avoid them getting in and out of the car or she would properly step on them.
Decided to go with clear bra instead along the length of the rockers in addition to the GM splash guards.

Hmm, the aftermarket is full of items that “improve the car!” So you are on the fence about buying because of “Splash Guards?” First GM provides a solution for the Stingray. A clear plastic film on the rocker panels. That prevents damage! Splash guards are a help IF you live in an area that has lots of pebbles on the road as in our rural environment with dirt sholders on our roads.
GM supplies as an aftermarket item Splash Guards for those that need them. Some don’t like the appearance and they no doubut add a bit more drag that GM tried to avoid.
I also added aftermarket protectors for the bottom of interior door panels. Another reason for you not to buy a C7??
Decisions to add aftermarket items, like those I have: ACS Splash Guards, ceramic brake pads, wheel locks, CAGS eliminator, MGW “improved shifter,” rear diffuser, Stage 3 winglets to my splitter, aFe reduced restriction air filter, door panel scuff protectors and other mods to my Grand Sport are my personal choice. Can’t blame GM because they didn’t add them!
I perused your blog Robert and found it very interesting. After reading your post and many post on Splash Guards ,it seems ACS quality and size wins out for people satisfied. I agree with the price one pays for the C7, it doesn't make sense to me to buy a poorer quality guard. I have also read a post were it was mentioned due to tires being inboard of fenders guards are not required on a basic Stingray, which I am purchasing. To me better to be safe than sorry, guards and X Pel.
Hello Jerry!
There is a saying that states, "to each his own". in regards to options one buys or after market items they chose to purchase. I like the Corvette very much and personally feel GM could have added the guards to protect bottom and sides from debris thrown up by tires. You obviously added a lot of aftermarket items, your choice.
^^
My point is some folks don’t like the added Splash Guard appearance or the way and where they drive don’t need them. Same with adding aftermarket “stuff” some will not do that, which I understand. The fact that GM designed an easy way for the owner to add their small 1/2 inch wide ones, IMO was a good idea on their part for those that want them.
Consideting their wholesale price to dealers is problably half the low retail price, the procurement, inventory and shipping costs they certainly didn’t provide them for any significant extra profit! In fact would think you could negotiate to have a local dealer add them in the purchase price! They install in minutes without jacking the car and require only one wrench. They snap in like the parts removed.
Is this much of an issue on a base model Stingray??
I understand how the wider tires on the other models pick up rocks and debris a lot, but is this much of an issue on the Stingray?
.
Depends where you live, IMO. My experiance with my 2014 Z51 was in about a month I saw the GM heavy protective plastic over the rocker panels from about the center of the door up to in front of the rear wheel was all marked even with the GM Splash Guards I had installed. In our rural area with mostly no paved shoulders, lots of pebbles pulled up on the road.
Bought full length LG Motorsports Carbon Fiber side skirts. Saw no more marking on the plastic so removed it after a few months of the install. It had already discolored on the edges. Sold the car after 3 1/2 years and the rocker panels looked new.
When I bought my 2017 Grand Sport, was no question I would get full length skirts so opted for the GM Stage 2 aero. Had removed the GM Splash Guards from the 2014 before I sold it figuring I would install on the Grand Sport. They cleaned up like new with “Maguire’s Ultimate Black” restorer and installed on the rear. However forum poster comments made me install ACS in the front.
It’s been 19 months and not a mark on my rocker panels or the rear fender lower brake cooling duct opening. Recently removed the small amount of GM heavy plastic behind and above the rear fender brake duct as it had no marks and the edges were discolored.
