What does reindexing the windows involve? What is the procedure? Or, does the C7 do it automatically upon opening doors after battery change out?

Are you for real, Joe?

Shut the doors, raised the windows, and hold up the window switch for three seconds.

Have you ever actually even perused the Owners Manual? It's obvious you have never read it, but holy crap, with all of your pontificating about the brand, you should have at least skimmed it!

OK, evidently, even I have a breaking point. *pulls hair out emoji *

My battery was out of about an hour when I installed a new one and I only had to index the passenger side window! Driver's side was fine! All other memories are saved. Just like you computer it remembers all the key items even when unpluged!

You are still not reading the question. Why do re-indexing if you have a tool that came with the car that keeps you from loosing the index !!

Because it's more trouble to connect the maintenance charger than it is to just re-index the windows? Not to mention, I'm not so sure I'd want to connect the charger with no battery load in the first place

Perhaps it is you who are not reading the answers. You are making this a lot more complicated than it needs to be.

"LOOSE" as in "There is a loose nut on this bolt."

"LOSE" as in "You need to lose some weight.

Because it will probably NOT work! That charger looks for a Battery or it will shut down and blink at you! You could buy a fixed low current 12 volt battery or some devices sold for the purpose just use a 9 Volt battery,

But the majority of us had no issues.

Seams to me you're trying to do what my old boss would say when he would walk through the Lab and saw something irrational being done: "Your solving a problem Known NOT to exist with a method Known NOT to work!"

Exactly right jerryu, the charging device goes to recharge directly to the battery which in turn powers the car's electrical circuits. Removal of battery==nothing to power those circuits.

The real question is do you lose anything in the DIC (MPG Numbers, Total RPM, etc). I know this thread is 4 years old but I need to replace my battery soon and was looking for answers...

I didnt lose anything (including DIC) when I did mine. When you pick up your new battery you should consider getting a post strap. Makes getting the OEM out much easier.
