I believe the Corvette wins in the "most American parts" contest at greater than 70%. I wasn't aware that we had tariffs for products from Canada or Mexico, where some transmissions are sourced. I'm sure there are a few parts from China, but by and large the original post was correct. It is unlikely that you can blame the price increase solely on tariffs.

What does all this cup holder crap have to do with GM raising Corvette prices? I don't get it.

With all the noise re cup holders solved that soon after I got my 2014 in October 2013. Saw the C7 recesses were deeper than the C6 (not much) and the passenger grab bar made my "Travel Buddy" used in the C6 not a good solution. I added felt pads to a Corvette stainless bottle used for water I always have when driving. Worked for short time, until I made a very quick stop and water all over as the bottle tilted! Fixed that with a more complicated solution than I devised and use on the Grand Sport. It holds in 1+ "g" turns and 1++"g" stops!
Basic problem it the OEM cup insert tilts. So, first thing to do is remove the rubber pad from the bottom of the opening. It just pulls out. Gain 5/64" in depth BUT most important get a surface you can glue the insert too. I made a fillet using UV activated adhesive. A poster, after seeing my solution, used silicon adhesive. It would be a bit easier to remove if you every desired. The cover still works fine.
The bottle still needs the felt pads and I even added some pad material to the cup. It fits snug. My C7 Vette bottle is stainless double wall and insulated. So IF I wanted to drink coffee just pure it in. I use mine exclusively for water.
There is a large fountain surrounded by plants at the end of my street where the road splits in two and there is a grass field on the right of the circular road around it Not a home or person in over 1/4 mile from that spot. Great place to hit over 1 "g" around it and with a full bottle- it doesn't move! Have done that often!

I believe this is 10% from aluminum coming from China. Aluminum is imported from other sources as well so the hit on manufacturers is dulled. Regardless, it will drive up the cost slightly. The good thing going on now is the cost of fuel. Have you seen what gasoline prices have been doing the past 70 days? This outta help.

I understand. But you forgot about the real problems? A8, differential, wheels? I've been fortunate with mine, but that's my take, and feel for the drivers that have had those major problems. Those damn wheels are expensive!

I do not believe the price rise has anything at all to do with fixing problems. The C7 design is fixed. Nothing will be changed at this late stage.

However despite Tadge's post saying it's because of pot holes, would seam to me, I'd increase the thickness of the wider rims. Easy to do, just adds weight. The C8 only has 305 versus the 335 section thickness tires (or at least the ones ruining around Germany) and I'm sure they will have their own design.

Raising prices? They are selling some models thousands if not 10k+ off msrp as it is. They have multiple brand new 2015 models still on show room floors as of a couple months ago when I looked last.
Stealing the good old Kohls marketing strategy I see mark everything way higher up then anyone pays for it so you can mark it down and give a "deal".

Some thoughts...
The initial announcement of higher prices will push some people off the fence to buy in-stock units now.
GM will eventually start putting more money on the table to move cars when the C8 gets closer to production. This also moves cars, but if they have raised the prices, the amount of discount on the higher prices nets more for GM than if they had not raised prices.
GM likely wants to make the C8 look like a bargain when compared with C7 prices when it is released. Raising the C7 prices now helps them better accomplish this goal.

the chevy price you pay is what we pay
USAToday on 12/19/18 has a 4-page advertisement by GM over the entire newspaper front and back offering Employee Discounts on GM vehicles.
Including the 2018 GS 2LT > > > $7,700 below MSRP (based on 74,335)
