I bent 4 rims on a trip from Tucson to Memphis and back. I talked to my dealer about installing forged wheels instead OEM and they said they had a problem balancing forged wheels. I wonder how much truth there is in this? They want to charge me like 3800 for a new set of wheels. A couple of pot holes did me in and just wondering how it wont happen again. Anyone have a problem balancing forged wheels?

This is BS. I would suggest you start looking for a new dealer. Find someone that does Road Force balancing. Discount Tire is one I know of.
Their wheels are not forged. Can you tell me were did you read this? There is a lot of bad info out there.
I think it was in the sales brochure. "Forged" gets thrown around quite a bit, I think it is rotary forged or the mold is spun during the casting process. The quality of aftermarket wheels is notoriously bad. I doubt the dealer has ever seen a real forged wheel.
The new ZR1 wheels are rotary forged, I know the Z06 wheels are NOT forged. I have Forgeline wheels on all my cars, they balance perfect, and with usually less weights than cast wheels. Your dealer is wrong

Check again your "sales" brochure because GM OEM Corvette wheels are not forged. They are cast aluminum or machined aluminum. You sure you're not looking at an aftermarket wheel brochure?
Check someone else for OEM wheels. I don’t remember the exact price but you can pick up a set for under $2k delivered to your house, I did. House of Wheels I believe it was.

I was not aware of the wheels of this car. It seems like when GM designed this car they learned a lot of lessons from the mistakes they made on the Z06. Rotary forged wheels, no spats, wide body front end fenders, improved heat transfer/cooling system performance. Probably other engineering changes as well. I wonder if the ZR1 A8 is the same trans we see in the Z06/GS/Stingray? What's sad is that at this stage in the development of the C7, GM has learned and corrected so many issues with C7 and has been continually improving each successive model year. Now that they have so many kinks worked out it's time to move on to C8. This is 1 reason I will never purchase a new generation in its first 2 years of development. Let them work out some of the engineering/design kinks that are always present early on. Anyway, nice looking rides.
1.) Contact Gerry at CW4L and order complete Forgeline wheel/tire package
2.) Install new forged wheels/tires and place OEM wheels/tires in Forgeline boxes and store in the corner of your garage
3.) Drive and enjoy car
4.) Re-install OEM wheels/tires when you trade/sell
5.) Sell or reuse your forged wheels
Try to bypass the dealership all together. My Forgeline wheels/tires package came mounted and balanced and were an easy swap.
Wow after reading the replies I sure am sorry I had the dealership order the new wheels. They also tried to sell me a new set of tires to go with them. The tires only have 12 k on them and there appears top be plenty of tread left. The tires they are trying to sell me at a cost of 2200 is also a rip off. We have 2 dealers here in Tucson I have talked to both and same thing with both. Got a feeling they get together to figure out pricing.

Thanks much. I sent email to them. Now if I can figure where to have them send them to be mounted. I only have a c6 and c7 hard to take them somewhere for mounting. so shipping them here is not going to work. I am not set up to mount them myself in Garage.

We will mount and balance and add tpms and if your worried about the corvette and having the stocks swapped out for the Forgelines Ill personally make the necessary calls to get you a local shop to do this simple swap so you dont have to lift a finger and know they wont hurt your vette. Not a problem its what we do.
Talk again soon!!

cancel the order, They shouldn't have an issue with that.
I think everyone has mentioned to NOT go back to the original GM wheels for a reason! Contact CW4L or other forged wheel dealer and do it right.
