GM changed how long you get the free remote start on the App. I have a 2016 Impala that I bought new and I get 5 years of free remote start from the App. They made a change in May of 2018 and if you sign up for Onstar after that date you must pay to have the ability to use the App for remote start after your free period. (30-90 days) So if you signed up for Onstar BEFORE May 2018 you are grandfathered into 5 years of free remote start from the App. If you sign up after May 2018 you must pay for that feature. I bought a used 2016 Corvette a few months ago and was VERY surprised to find out that this happened. I bought a automatic just so I could have the remote start on the App and now I found out I have to pay for it. On top of that, my transmission has the shudder problem that many 8 speeds haves. If I knew this before I bought the car I would have bought a 7 speed manual instead.
And what do they charge to only be able to use the remote start feature?
I have a 2017 Colorado and the app was free for 3 months. I now pay $20 a month for it to OnStar. My 2019 GS had it free for only 3 months and I decided I don't need to remotely know what I can get sitting in the car. When I ordered the GS, pricing was right there on the connected vehicle service options. When I called to opt out of continuing past the 3 months, there was no offer like you can get with SiriusXM or cable.
1-Year Chevrolet Remote Access Plan$1501-Year Chevrolet Remote Access Plan + OnStar Safety & Security Plan$3501-Year OnStar Safety & Security Plan$250
I agree it’s so sleazy to now charge for a feature that was listed as part of the 2LT PREFERRED EQUIPMENT GROUP option (which specifically listed auto start) that I paid $4500 for!
Their limited , one sided perspective is ...you get auto start.... on your fob ...such a croc fro what we paid for this car

Nope far from it. Sad my 60K Ford truck, has an app, which is totally free. It also does way more than the Chevy app can do. My Grand Sport MSRP 30K more than my truck, and they want to charge for an inferior app. Sad
This is all over the place really. My 2011 Equinox still allows use of MyChevy remote. My 2017 Colorado fully works all functions. My 4 month old GS no longer works. When I called to cancel when I was notified thst I would be billed, I was told that after May 2018, you only got 3 mos free. Before that you got basic included for life. Being I have a stick it doesnt bother me too much, though I do like being able to squirt the nav in from time to time. What I dont get is Equinox 8 yrs old worth $6k it works. Colorado a year old worth $30k...works. A 2019 GS worth $65k...no work. Chevy should at least have consistancy. Everything is about subscriptions now. Extended warranties, Onstar, My Chevy, Sirius XM., etc. They're no longer happy to sell you a car and make profit. For me in a northern environment it makes no sense yo sign up for these hings on a car that sits 4-5 mos. If they would offer a partial year I might take some of these options but to squirt Nav fir $15 a mos makes little sense. Too bad....I like that feature. The same for Sirius XM...like it, but makes no sense as car sits. GM should get smart enough to offer partial year plans on Vettes that store innorthern areas. 50% of something is better than 0% of nothing.
Bummed about new time frame for FREE app MY 17 GS and wife's 17 Acadia still work for free. My new 18 GMC Sierra that I got 6 weeks ago no longer works for free . I feel it not worth the fee.I liked the app for remote starting when I was at work and was out of fob range. O well my 14 that I traded in would have run out in a few months anyway!
The app should work 5 years on a new vehicle purchase. You also need to set up your onstar account by pushing the blue button inside your car along with the online registration that the dealer does. So you have to complete all these steps for it to work correctly.
I did all of the above and when we got done setting up account . Onstar said there app and GMC, Chevy etc will work free for One month unless I give them a credit card and they will give me two additional free months and charge me after that . I said NO THANKS !
Now when I go on app and tap 18 GMC Sierra it ask me to shop for plan and show only the vehicle diagnostics, dealer maintenance, market place are active through Dec 7 2028 . I can buy vehicle status, remote start ,vehicle locate, send to navigation, family link and on demand diagnostics for11.99 a month. Then option for more expensive plans.

I just experienced this today. I also thought I read that you get 5 or maybe even 10 years use of the app for the start/unlock/lock settings. Purchased my 2019 in April, tried using it today while I was at a restaurant. Wanted to start the car and have it cool off inside before leaving. None of the app functions are available now for free, $14.95/month for this convenience when my Lincoln offers it for free? I don't think so. I walked over to a window, pointed my fob towards the car and it worked fine. That's good enough.

GM discontinued the free app features for new buyers. My 2014 C7 had it for 5 years. My 2019 was 90 days if I remember correctly.

2015 and Newer Vehicles
Drive with the confidence of up to 3 free months of OnStar Safety & Security coverage which includes Automatic Crash Response and Emergency Services, and stay connected to your vehicle with Connected Services like remote start, lockand unlock and 4G LTE data for your available in-vehicle Wi-Fi® hotspot. You'll also enjoy 5 years of standard connectivity to services like Vehicle Diagnostics to help monitor your vehicle's health - all available via your vehicle's mobile app.
ahhh, that's where I saw the 5 years. So basically, you get an email when your tire pressure is low or you need an oil change. That's real useful if you never get into your car.
