I have a 2016 Z51 Vert with the electronic mechanism. When I try to unlatch the lid you can hear it unlatch and immediately thereafter it relatches with the motorized latching. It happens this way from inside the car, with the fob and the push button next to the license plate. I finally opened it using a plastic crowbar applying upward pressure and using the manual key - this was a fight as the latch continued to want to relatch. I have an appointment at the dealer on Thursday - still under warranty. Through all of this my biggest concern was not being able to hookup the trickle charger and the issues would be compounded with a dead battery. (I've searched the Forum and numerous tries on Google and came up with nothing similar to my issue). Any insights would be helpful.
Funny thing. . . what some people think is serious, others just live with. My 2016 coupe does the same thing when the temperature is cool or cold. I just thought it was an 'undocumented feature'!
When my trunk starts it's relatch jag, I just stand close to the lid, and grab an edge with my finger tips when it first unlatches, and give it an upward flick. Voilŕ! Unlatched!
I assume when it's cold out the hatch shocks loose some lift. This would stop the hatch from having the upward pressure to release it from the mechanical latch.
OP: I don't have the auto close latch on my 15, but sometimes the rubber seal around the hatch would stick a bit and the hatch wouldn't pop up even enough to get a finger under. I used a very light coating of WD-40 on a paper towel and ran it over the entire length of the rubber seal -- problem solved. Talc or baby powder will also work. Maybe that's why your latch is re-engaging. hope this helps -- tom
The trip to the dealer was anti-climatic. The problem would not repeat itself so the dealer could not do anything about it. They did acknowledge that there is a problem with the struts in cold weather. I have the problem documented in their records so they say they will honor the warranty if/when it recurs. Actual temperatures have warmed up about 15 degrees. A redeeming part of the trip to the dealer was the ZR1 sitting our front waiting to be delivered. It was a beauty.

Maybe I should follow this thread?!!*
I'd be afraid of losing a couple fingers using this method.
My 2017 convertible had a latching issue similar to what you describe. There is a software update that fixed mine. Your dealer should be able to fine the service letter.
