If you get a report and he pays for the repair which stops you from filing with his company he will not see a surcharge. Nor would you.

he should tell his insurance company he hit your car and he is going to pay for it.

like others have said no reason he shouldn't want to go through insurance. Most companies have accident forgiveness though owner loyalty (over time).

always tricky when paying cash.

nothing saving you from other issues down road v going through insurance company... nothing. And that can suck.

5-7k repair. if you trust he will pay that’s fine but if he decides to go though insurance the longer you both wait the more critical the insurance company will be.

Outside of who is paying the most most critical issue is finding the right body shop. Don’t shop price, find a shop that has experience fixing Vettes. You may dodge the carfax report paying direct, depends on the shop, regardless the value will be impacted.

This is one thing I was thinking. My wife is thinking she wants the mid engine. So maybe this will be traded in. The only problem is I don't know we can find any shop that is experienced in new Vettes. My local Chevy dealer doesn't even sell them. (Small town) We're the only C7 in town. Is the C7 differnt than an older Vette like a 79'? I do know a place that does them.

Knowing where you are would be helpful. You could also research a somewhat local Corvette Club and ask them who they recommend for body work.

I thought i posted this allready. Anyways, I took the car to two bodyshops. The first said they not doing estimates because they are so backed up. (I'm in the hurricane zone) The other shop was closed. I thought it was open after the hurricane, but it did have heavy damage. Not sure where I'm going next.

Live an learn. When I was a 20 year old E-5 in Augusta Georgia, some idiot decides to put his car in reverse at a stop sign and backed into me. "Please don't call the cops, I'm a disabled vet", he said. Okay, just give me your insurance and I'll contact them to get it fixed. Just a little ding on the front of the hood. I called the insurance and it was, "Sorry pardner, my client said you ran into him". Ding stayed on my cheapo car for the next 5 years. Call the cops, no matter how insignificant the damage to the car.

Some of you guy's comments on Carfax and Autocheck along with diminished values is just laughable.
I have been to dealerships with cars which looked absolutely perfect and had the appraiser spot almost every defect and repair.
Just because no one reported it, doesn't mean you are going to get away with it.
You drive a Corvette. You have diminished value as soon as you drove off of the lot.

And I appreciate it. I only buy used cars. Your loss is my gain.

Default Just the Facts

Our C6 was popped in the rear three times in 15 months from new. Got a little Area 51 on us. $3K each time on the hitter's dime. The two body shops involved, neither reports to Car Fax. They made the point of saying so. A Car Fax is effectively worthless despite being clean. Our repair shops and in our case 3 separate insurance companies (the hitters) did not report at all. So I don't get the Car Fax deal?

Find a couple of body shops/dealerships to get several estimates even if you have to drive. Impossible to give an estimate based on the pictures. When it comes to $$$ friends suddenly seem to forget when it comes to paying up or they actually get the reality check bill vs their unrealistic expectations no matter how much money they claim to have. Get it in writing he is responsible and paying in lieu of you not making a claim.

Just a quick update. We got an estimate from a dealer.

$4200

He said that could go up if there's damage underneath.
