Default Spare key?

Did a search but did not find anything...I am still waiting for my car but I was wondering if it is possible to get a spare key made like you could for the C6? I like to keep a spare key in my wallet as I have locked my fob in the C6.

Yes, I did at Home Depot... the one that is contained within the FOB. While it’s hard to lock your keys in a car nowadays, i.e., beep(s), OnStar, etc., it’s still good to have a spare to unlock the doors or hatch in an emergency.

Keep your FOB in your pocket at all times and you'll never need a spare key

(there really is no reason to ever take it out anyway)

Why not use the mychevlolet app? You can use it to unlock the car...simple.

This. And if you must have a spare in your wallet, what sTz mentioned will work just fine.

I tried that the other day and it turns out if your Corvette, and I’m assuming any GM vehicle, was purchased in June of 2018 or later GM has changed there policy and it is now a monthly fee. It had been free for years as I had used it on all my GM vehicles including my 14, 15 and 2017 C7. I even called Chevy customer service to confirm and they told me June was the cut off date. I really loved that feature at the track, but not enough to pay 14.99 a month.

A simple option might be to take the key from one of the two fobs that comes with the car and keep that one in your wallet. It would make the fob much lighter and that could also be a plus. A down side is the top of the key is too bulky to fit nicely in a wallet.

I always carried a key in my wallet for my pickup truck. I could easily lock a key in that one. But for my own use with the C7, I don't and probably never would. The reason is I don't have my car programmed for auto lock. I always lock it with the fob, which has to be in my hand and not left in the car. Actually, locking the car is the only reason I'd take the fob out of my pocket. I know, too much trouble for some of you but that's my method. Hasn't failed me yet.

GM charges a fee now to use the app for newer cars.

Perhaps getting a key made is simpler for the OP, who was merely asking if a key could be made. Obviously, there are other options...

Yes, having a spare key in my wallet or even on the outside of the car is good insurance. I have managed to lock my fob in the car before which is why I am a bit cautious - until it doesn't happen to yourself it doesn't seem possible.

Put the fob in your pocket and leave it there, should not even be an issue.

This is my routine. Goes in my pocket when I'm in the house and stays there till I get back.

You must not play golf! You don’t want your car keys in your pocket while playing. I did the same exact thing a couple weeks ago. It was raining and my key Fob was in my golf bag, opened the hatch using the button near the plate, threw my bag in and shut the hatch. I was lucky I had my phone and could get road side assistances. It took the guy about a half hour to open the passenger door with a fiberglass stick he inserted through the window and the frame. He almost gave up and said he would tow it to the dealer! What a PITA!

Is is there a setting that can make the doors unlock when the button is pushed?

Surprised the hatch didn't pop back open. My other car does that. I never knew but glad it does. Left my fob in my gym bag one day, same thing popped the trunk with the button on the decklid, threw my gym bag in and closed the trunk. It popped back open. Did this 2 more times then I realized what was going. Damn happy the car is smart.

The Corvette will beep at you if the doors are shut and the key fob goes into the cargo area; 4 fast beeps. Did yours do that?

Yes, as long as you have a key to copy, anyone who has the very expensive machine to laser cut the key can copy one. IDK about getting a flat blank for your wallet, though. You would have to call around your area to check on both counts.

Your "4 fast beeps" had me wondering, because I've never heard four beeps. 3 beeps is the "fob left in vehicle" signal.

So, I just went out and experimented.

I checked several times, with both the car locked, and not yet locked (auto lock enabled). I threw the fob in the trunk (VERT) and shut the lid, and every single time, there was no beep/honk whatsoever. but the trunked locked, and the car itself unlocked (I could hear it via the gas cap). I could not open the trunk via the plate button, but the DS door was unlocked, and once I opened the door, I could press the trunk/hatch button and open it. I did not try to reach in and pop the trunk (because all reasonable people are asleep except me), and I did not want to risk setting off the alarm with the fob in the trunk, and my other fob in the house 40 feet away.

For sure , it didn't pop back open, but it did know it was there, and did not allow the car to lock or it unlocked itself.

Still relying on the MyChevrolet app but when I was driving a C6, the FOB fell out of my pocket and dropped behind the driver's seat, too far away to be sensed. The car was set to lock automatically and it didn't happen at home. A hidden Hide-a-key saved me. Once my 5 year MyChevrolet coverage expires, I'll hide a spare key under the car.

That's really weird it's happened twice that I reached into the cargo area with my key fob in my hand and the car beeped at me.

Mine is a '14, so maybe GM changed something by the time yours was built. Heaven knows, the '14 does a lot of things differently than any other MY.

First of all, thanks for the info on the key replication.

Secondly, I just went and experimented on my 2019 and it behaves just like yours (which is different from my C6). I got the rapid honks when I closed the trunk with the fob in the trunk. My trunk did not unlock but the door did (I double checked that it was locked before I did this). This is good to know because once I locked the fob in the trunk in the C6 because the fob was in my jacket.
