Spare key?

(there really is no reason to ever take it out anyway)

I always carried a key in my wallet for my pickup truck. I could easily lock a key in that one. But for my own use with the C7, I don't and probably never would. The reason is I don't have my car programmed for auto lock. I always lock it with the fob, which has to be in my hand and not left in the car. Actually, locking the car is the only reason I'd take the fob out of my pocket. I know, too much trouble for some of you but that's my method. Hasn't failed me yet.

Is is there a setting that can make the doors unlock when the button is pushed?
The Corvette will beep at you if the doors are shut and the key fob goes into the cargo area; 4 fast beeps. Did yours do that?

So, I just went out and experimented.
I checked several times, with both the car locked, and not yet locked (auto lock enabled). I threw the fob in the trunk (VERT) and shut the lid, and every single time, there was no beep/honk whatsoever. but the trunked locked, and the car itself unlocked (I could hear it via the gas cap). I could not open the trunk via the plate button, but the DS door was unlocked, and once I opened the door, I could press the trunk/hatch button and open it. I did not try to reach in and pop the trunk (because all reasonable people are asleep except me), and I did not want to risk setting off the alarm with the fob in the trunk, and my other fob in the house 40 feet away.

For sure , it didn't pop back open, but it did know it was there, and did not allow the car to lock or it unlocked itself.

Your "4 fast beeps" had me wondering, because I've never heard four beeps. 3 beeps is the "fob left in vehicle" signal.

Secondly, I just went and experimented on my 2019 and it behaves just like yours (which is different from my C6). I got the rapid honks when I closed the trunk with the fob in the trunk. My trunk did not unlock but the door did (I double checked that it was locked before I did this). This is good to know because once I locked the fob in the trunk in the C6 because the fob was in my jacket.

And if you must have a spare in your wallet, what sTz mentioned will work just fine.

Put the fob in your pocket and leave it there, should not even be an issue.
