Default Jersey drivers

Hello,
Who opts to drive in Jersey without a front license plate. Ever been stopped for it ? If you keep it in the car (on the passenger side floor) when stopped will the officer not ticket you if you say, Well officer I had it on but someone pointed out that that it's hanging loose and before it fell off, I removed it to reinstall it !!
Thanks,
Rich K ( Vette Ski )

But there are way better things (IMHO) in abundance especially in the South West, not to mention the fact that it's in the 70's here with no snow and no need to garage and hibernate your vette. You simply don't find roads like

in NJ which, BTW, vettes like ours LOVE! And you won't find that in NJ! THere's a highway in California witih 140 miles of twisty turns. And then things like PCH and Big Sur. It doesn't compare at all. You should get out more.

Let alone that, the attitude of people in other states when compared to NJ (and again I lived there for 24 years) is world's apart. NJ and NY people have a reputation and I can attest to the fact that it's 1) not pleasant and 2) well earned. Not saying everybody's like that but a lot are.

As for "You can't change the weather" - sure you can. Move! There is much better weather in many places.

I can assure you of one thing - I will never go back to visit NJ! I might go to NY to see a play but that'd be a quick weekend trip - in and out. I have no love for NJ at all and really no reason to go back.
WOW, Geeze I didn't ask for all that information. BTW I do live on a 40 acre farm. Its Gods country. All my family live here in N.J, the Garden State. Glad you finally found a good place to live after 6 tries. Thank you for moving, you sound like one of the people you were describing .

It's a class A felony, minimum 5 years in the state pen. Harden the **** Up (HTFU) and try it.

grew up in Jersey, have lived in WA State for over 25 years; avoided the whole problem with a front plate but I see
many cars with the plate either on the dash or not at all...….

Knock on wood, I haven't been stopped with the vette. I don't run one on my bird, my G8 I used to own, my old Hellcat and not the Vette. I'll take the ticket.

My front license plate story....

I had rented a 2008 vette for 5 years. Never had a front license plate and lived in Arizona, Washington State, Reston Virginia and California. While in Califonia a few months before my lease was set to expire a cop pulled me over and ticketed me for no front license plate. I went almost the full 5 years without a problem and now this!

As I move a lot I scoured my garage looking for the front license plate. It's a fix it ticket and I figured if I could get that front plate I'd just stop by the cop shop with the plate in the front window and plead with the cop that my lease is expiring in a mouth or two and that the mounting bracket for my Vette was on backorder. Now where is my front plate!

As I couldn't find it I set an appointment up with the DMV to get a new plate, filled out the forms and waited patiently. When I got up to the service desk they said I had to surrender my old plates and handed me a screw driver. I went out to my car in the parking lot and proceeded to remove my back license plate and to my amazement there were two licenses plates there! Ah! I had doubled up the license plates in the back since I wasn't using the front one.

Not needing the new plates I heanded the DMV clerk her screwdriver and left. I threw the other plate on the dashboard and stopped at a cop shop. It was around lunch time so there was only one cop in there. He looked over my paperwork and signed off on the ticket. He mentioned that he needed to verify that I have a front plate and we walked out to the parking lot where he noticed my plate was not mounted. "You're gonna have to mount that plate", he said to me. Sensing he didn't want to be in the parking lot with the office pretty much unmanned I told him "Sure thing officer" and he let me go with that. I drove home and put the plate back in with the back plate like it was before and returned the car a few weeks later.

Front license plates are stupid. I don't have one on my current Vette either.

Never had one on my TA, G8, ELR and my Corvette came from Utah, so no bracket to mount a plate. As a matter of fact just got my ELR inspected and nothing was said about the plate. I drive 35k a year for work and was only asked once about it at a traffic safety check. Just told him I bought it out of state and no bracket came with it.

Cops in most states don't enforce those laws, and many are Corvette fans anyway.

Small town Oregon. Had the c-7 a year, daily driver, city police followed the wife home and informed her the Vette needed a front plate. State and county hasn’t givin a second look. It’s now on.

If caught its a $100 fine and most times a mandatory court date - to explain why you dont have one installed on your Jersey registered car....which is probably another $100 to $200 worth of fees. Looking this information up, I found the following statistics:

For NJ license plate violations, during the past five years, the highest number of summons written was 87,195, issued in 2014. Out of those 72,188 were found or pleaded guilty - so these numbers tell me that you WILL get caught.

If you install a fake plate (one that is not physically attached to your car legally) then its an additional $500 fine on top of the ones already mentioned.

If you drive like you're supposed to in Jersey - one foot from the bumper of the car in front of you - nobody can see if you have a front plate or not. (Born and raised in Jersey.)

14 years. All good.

Amortize the cost over 14 years, it's not material.

A number of very good reasons why I would never live in that hell hole known as New Jersey! They are a petty and pathetic lot of people who live there. It's got crappy weather, crappy streets, tons of people with attitudes and no brains, and they are packed in like rats!

Bought my C7 in September 2016, I’ve never had a front plate frame, much less a front plate. No stops or violations, but plenty of chats with local police, they love the car!

If you aren’t driving to make an impression, you won’t have a problem. Over 34k miles and I haven’t yet...

Not sure why those who run a plate or are critical are being critical. Run a plate, don't run a plate, why do you care what others do or have done? I have the plate on a screw in holder that fist the into the tow hook receptacle and it's always in the car. LEOs aren't going to stop you for no plate, if they pull you over for something else and there's no plate they MIGHT ask where it is. I got a speeding ticket 2 years ago, and I wasn't running a front plate, NJ Trooper couldn't care less about the no front plate.

So do what you like, but don't **** on others if it's not what you would do.

Too bad you felt that was necessary. Born in New York City, been a NJ resident since ‘93...nothing we can do about the weather, the other stuff you can find anywhere in America. And where people are packed in like rats, you don’t find farms, and the Garden State has plenty. I’m sure Arizona has it’s blemishes too. Hope you visit soon.
