I'm driving mine from Knoxville to Nashville Tuesday, rain or shine. I have an appointment at Vanderbilt (my last for awhile I hope), and I want to make the trip more interesting than driving the wife's Impala, the C=-5 or my Avalanche .
Some of you will be relieved to know I washed it today.
Hum, personally it doesn't matter to me if or when you wash your car. That's kind of the point, as owners of garage queens don't typically care how much or when you "drive my C7 every day, in any weather" owners drive your C7s.
However it seems to worry the **** out of you how little garage queen owners drive theirs.
Some of you act as though driving your C7 in the rain or snow is the proudest thing you've ever done, which is fine, some just elect not to do it and that's fine as well.
I actually think its a mistake never driving in the rain. Once or twice a year, I would make it a point to drive twenty or thirty highway miles during hard rain. Its the best way to test for water leaks, and clean rainwater at seventy mph is a good way to wash the undercarriage. Plus, water and humidity also help bring forward any intermittent electrical problems that could be brewing. The only downside is you have to wash the car afterwards, but if you were planning that anyway, then there is no downside.
I flew to Kerbecks from NC to pick up mine on Nov 15th. when I left NC the weather was a sunny 60 degrees. I was picked up at the airport in Philly and on the way to the dealership it began to rain. About 5 minutes after leaving the dealership the rain turned to heavy snow. I was surprised at how quickly it began to stick to the roads. With the summer only tires and a brand new car I was driving very carefully and upsetting quite a few folks. The manual transmission didn't help matters much. It took me about 2 hours to make the 40 minute drive out of New Jersey but once I went over the Delaware Memorial bridge into Delaware the snow stopped but the rain continued all the way back to NC. Needless to say, my car was baptized with snow and rain before the break-in period was complete. I'll certainly drive it in the rain again but even after replacing the summer only tires I don't think I'd like to do any further driving in the snow. It was unbelievable how many accidents I came across during my drive in New Jersey.
I sold a Factory Five Cobra replica that I have had an absolute blast w/ for 13 years so I could by my 19 Stingray. One reason was so I could drive it in the rain, you know, like a normal car. About a month into ownership, it started to rain as I was 1/2 down the driveway to run some errands. Yeehaaaaaw, I just kept driving. I am so glad I made that decision.
