Hello,
OK, just received my Griots 6" random orbital buffer. There are a few acid rain spots and swirls on my black GS from sitting on the dealers lot prior to my purchase of the vehicle. I also bought the Blackfire One Step BF-900 polish
*Any of you use buffers to bring up the shine on your cars and trucks*.
I have always polished and waxed by hand but I will experiment on our other vehicles prior to doing the 'vette.
I will watch a DVD I received with my purchase prior to doing anything.

I've done a few cars mainly to remove swirls and light scratches, take your time, lots of patience, do a small area at a time, go slow speed till you get comfortable, slow speed to spread the compound so it doesn't spray everywhere, I use a 3 step system, final step is a sealer, different sponges have different strengths, watch the corners don't push too hard to go through the clear depending on your compound aggressiveness

Impossible to overdo it with the Griots orbital. Just take your time and you'll be fine (a speed setting of around 4 is a good starting point and it shouldn't take much to get rid of the spots)

i agree it would be very hard to do any damage with the griots. Work in a 2’ x 2’ area, spread out the product on a low speed (1-2), then turn it up to 4-5 and go horizontally overlapping about 25%. Once you finish the horizontal work, go vertically overlapping about 25%. Keep switching back and forth until you do about 6 passes (depends on how long the working time of the product is). The key is also to go steady and slow, don’t just throw the buffer back and forth.

Your choice of pad is as important as your choice of polish.
Griots web site has a pad comparison chart that explains each pad's uses.

You will be amazed at the difference using a Orbital Buffer vs hand polishing and waxing. About 15 years ago I bought a Porter Cable and started out knowing nothing. I eventually turned it into a side business for extra cash. Just watch some videos and you will be fine. I would also take Cowboys advice and go with a Ceramic coating after you have the paint looking good. I had never done ceramic coating before, so I was quoted $2000 for paint correction and ceramic coatings...... since I already know how to get the paint clear of swirls and scratches I decided to try it myself....... so simple that all my cars have it now including the Goldwing.
Some before and after pics of a Vette I did.......

I am i the exact same boat...my new 2018 black Z51 i just bought had been outside on the lot for awhile and the paint is a total mess. Water spots everywhere!.
Ill prolly have to spend days to get the whole car cleaned up.

Bring it on over and we can do some paint correction together
