Thanks for the reassuring words. I tried to pull the back panel off, but it did seem like it was going to break, so I stopped. I figured I could always go to the dealer and have them do it so I didn't break anything. I may give it a try again. It should would be helpful to see how the unit was mounted and hooked up near the battery and fuse box. Does anyone have any pictures? This forum is the best!

Power for the radio doesn't need to come from the battery - just plug it in the cig lighter in the center console when needed.

As for the back panel, place your fingers under the weather stripping and you'll see the upper edge of the panel sits under there. It should be pretty obvious how to free that upper edge from under it. Also, the 2 hooks at each end of the panel (where the net attaches) that are threaded? You unscrew one end only and that allows the panel to pop free on that end. Again you do NOT need to entirely remove the panel - you need to simply pull it back a few inches so as to gain access to the latch area

[QUOTE=Big Lebowski;1598985308]The 1970's called, and they want you to stop using an outdated form of communication...

True story, but Im wondering what the purpose is today, I would think cell phones, radar detectors and GPS have rendered them useless? Please advise.

Our club uses CB on road trips, short or long. I keep the unit in the car but seldom turn it on when traveling solo.

CB with a typical external antenna, has several times the range of Family Radio or other walki-talkies.
Unlike cellphones, it does not need a cellphone connection that is often unavailable in the more interesting parts of the country.
Unlike a cellphone, you can have several people on the channel and all can hear whatever is said.

Sometimes CB can get information about traffic problems and Smokies from truckers, but to me it's usually not worth the continuous barrage of pottymouth drivel. I prefer to use Waze and a radar detector. We use the factory Nav for navigation because it's easy and integrates with the HUD.

I have a CB in the basement. Last time I used it was when we caravanned to Memphis motorsports park about ten years ago for three days of racing. A year later, I got my amateur radio license and now everything I have is geared towards 2M/440Mhz. It's too bad we all don't have technician class licenses, 2 meters is so much nicer than CB. DMR is supposed to be even better. Even better, probably, is to use Echolink software on your phone and use the cellphone towers. Or, for license-free communication that is pretty much two-way, party-line access, put the discord app on your smartphone. Then, set up a road-trip channel, and everyone can talk at once and it'll bluetooth straight through the speakers on your media system, whether or not you are a mile from each other, or half a continent away.

Except cell service isn't everywhere nor is internet.

I have an antenna bracket that mounts in the holes for the rear license plate and use a 4ft whip antenna that is attached using a quick connect so it can be removed when not in use. I'd take some pics for you but it's under cover and awaiting winter to go away.

I will say the cb is a much better way to communicate with the other club members than those dang handheld portables that don't receive/transmit more than a few hundred feet.
can you post any pics of the cb installation now?
Location, wiring, etc.
Thanks

You will need 2 mic extensions to run to the front. I ran mine to the carpet break alongside the console on the drivers side. For the antenna I fabricated a bracket that mounts behind the license plate, notched so all lights, backup cam, etc. Work as designed. The antenna mounts on a detachable flat mount that attaches to the main bracket. I wanted to not see any evidence of cb when not using it. If u dont mind seeing an antenna mount, there is one for C7s complete with antenna for about $180. I also had custom antenna cables made with standard pl59 connectors on each end and fme connectors which I can dissconnect in the middle when I take the flat antenna mount off. The final optional thing I added was a small external speaker behind the left side of the driver seat, velcro mounted to the carpet. The whole install is very stealth and unnoticeable.....a few in my club have emulated it. Some members have done the same radio install but simply put the antenna behind the seat as needed. It works but distance us limited to about 1/2 mile.

Yes I am sure we will get the "comments" about using cbs but we have tried many methods but cb us still the best fof club trips.
Sounds so professional. Wish I could see pics of the mount parts and custom antenna cable as I am having difficulty visualizing. Thanks
