Android Auto "Something went wrong, please try again later"

When I try voice command for directions with Google Maps or Waze using Android Auto, I get the audio message, "Something went wrong, please try again latter".
This I get whether or not the phone is connected to the car (2017 GS)
Voice command works fine making phone calls.
This is something that never happened before. Nothing changed in my phone that might affect AA.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Maps, Waze, and AA, also changed the usb cable.
Your help is appreciated.
Thank you

I know, I hate crappy error messages myself. So you're saying if you say "OK Google, navigate to 7-11" or some such it returns "Something went wrong"? If that's the case it follows that it's not AA that's causing the problem.
Or are you saying that you only get this problem when running AA (attached or otherwise) and do a voice command about directions?
I've experienced that occasionally you'll get a few "Something when wrong" when asking Google assistant about anything. As a large beast of servers running in the cloud, sometimes one of them goes screwy and asking again may get you another server who is not screwy. If you try again a few times does it continue to refuse to work?

Saw this as an email signature and laughed my *** off:

Do you want to reboot to effect changes?

It's just weird that this started happening out of the clear. Yesterday normal, today craps.
Thanks to all for your suggestions. I've tried 'em all.

When you are walking down the street and you are not running AA at all, what happens if you start Google Maps then tap the icon and ask for navigation directions?
Similarly when you are not in Google Maps, when you are on the home screen of your phone, assuming you've configured a search button on your home screen (often configured by default), what happens when you tap on the mic and ask for directions?
What happens if you're in your car and running AA, either on the phone or the screen and you switch to your home screen, tap that mic and ask for directions?
You see there are many ways to interact with Google and what I'm trying to determine is do all fail or do some work and some not work. Not all of them talk to the same Google Assistant. In the beginning, if you were in AA and asked for directions that's pretty much all you could get. Later AA and Google Maps were hooked into the Google Assistant. This means you can actually tap on the mic in AA and say "Tell me the latest news" and Google would play the latest news on your radio. Or you could ask for the weather or who's the president or sports scores, etc.
Needless to say are you sure you've been keeping AA, GM, and your OS up to date? I've had problems with the Play Store not be able to update my apps and getting stuck. Unsticking it required clearing of cache and data from the PlayStore, Playstore Services, and Google Framework services. It was a real PITA however I just got my new S10+ a few days ago and everything is currently snappy, connecting AA is fast and reliable and things like updating apps no longer have a problem in the PlayStore.

I haven't done that

Thanks for the help.

Looks like my work here is done. I just don't understand it though. I try to help. I ask questions to gather data. And people respond by totally ignoring them! Fix it yourself then... Geeze.

It looks like the OP is indeed having a problem but only when using voice command when in AA and GM running underneath. It would be interesting to see if he could return to his home screen then click the mic on the Google search widget and ask for directions since that appears to work for him outside of AA. He couldn't return to his home screen then fire up Google Maps directly because AA senses that and doesn't allow it. I know I've had times when for some odd reason something in my calendar would not show up in AA. I would go to my home screen and tap on the event in my calendar. Then I would tap on the address. This sends the request to GM. But under AA it flashes a warning saying you can't run GM on the phone when under AA however it still sends the address to GM running under AA and the route starts anyway.
Other than that I would think he might want to clear cache and data for AA and perhaps GM too. Uninstall AA and maybe reboot in order to make sure any services running in the background have also been stopped (or use a task manager to find and force stop such services to avoid the full reboot) then install AA again.
I did notice when I was having problems with my last phone and had to fix the PlayStore not updating apps by force closing and clearing cache and data for Google Play, Google Play Services, and Google Framework Services that many settings would be lost like all of my SmartLock settings and, interestingly, AA. When I would start AA after that it would go through the steps that you go through when you first install AA. So it was clear to me that at least SmartLock settings and AA settings were contained in the data of either the PlayStore, the PlayStore Service or the Framework services. He might try that too.
new 2019 GMC "how things work" instructions (on the GM phone app), it says there is a short press, and a long press, they will summon two different results.

Thanks for jumping in my thread.
Quick, simple, no fan-fare! All up and running.
It just takes one member who knows what's going on.
Thank you.

Good luck, crap like this can be so aggravating.
