Congrats! I just got my first Vette last week, a 2017 manual Stingray w/ 5000 miles on it and what sold me on getting the manual was how easy and smooth it was when shifting (as opposed to the brand new 2019 Camaro SS manual that I test drove at the same time that was very "rough" and herky jerky).
So, I wonder if it is just because it is new?
Thank you and congrats as well! It is such a wonderful machine, never fails to bring a smile ear to ear even when I just walk by it.
I too wonder if its due to lack of breaking -in. Though I also remember the non-GS/Z06 models felt smoother when I tested some. Sadly not a whole lot of people chiming it yet
Quick question as a new owner... I've noticed shifting gears seems a bit.. I dunno, rough? The engagement on the shifter is notchy and nowhere near as smooth as I'd hoped. Once the car is warmer as well as the rest of the liquids it becomes a little more compliant. But none of the manual sports cars I've owned have this feeling... could this be down to the new bushings and transmission/clutch?
I was looking into the MGW short shifter anyway, but was curious if this is a common occurrence.
Cheers!
The shifter on my 2017 z51 is tighter (in terms of spacing between gears) and more "crunchy" than any other manual transmission I've driven. But I wouldn't say it's an issue, it just requires more force than the easier shifting cars I've had. It's definitely worse when cold out but gets better as the car warms up. As far as the clutch, it's smooth and not that stiff. If you're concerned about your shifter, find a new m7 on the lot and ask if you can row through the gears. I bet it will be very similar to yours.
Thank you!! That is one seeeeeexy Corvette you have!

I can agree with both points, I took it for another drive today and switched the performance gauge to transmission coolant temp, and as soon as it hit around 125 and above, it was much better. First and second are by far crunchier still, but nothing to worry about. If time's anything to go by, I'm sure it will continue to smooth out!
