I've used Chemical Guys Heavy Duty Water Spot Remover to good effect. Wash the area, use the product per directions, wash the area to deactivate and remove the product. I usually just finish washing the entire car at that point to make sure no product stays on the car. Obviously, preventing water spots is better than removing them so once they're good, get a sealant on the paint.

Water spots are why I'm getting so **** about drying and learning the various sealants and ceramic coatings. On a black car they really irk me.

Clay and machine polishing, even with just a finishing polish and pad, will usually get rid of them, the trick is minimizing them in the first place.

I hooked it up similarly. I have switching and anti-backflow valves plumbed in so I can switch between filtered and unfiltered water.

I've found after moving to Florida years ago and getting my Monterey Red Corvette covered with water spots from all the minerals in the water from their sprinkler systems. So I spent a month trying to get rid of them until a friend with a black Corvette told me, "Next time you wash your Vette add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to your bucket of car wash. It does get rid of them and it's way cheaper than a new water system and $ 10.00 bottles of spot remover". It works and it doesn't make your car smell like a pickle either.

The owner might not like it because you tie up his bay for a longer period of time, but take your car to a self-serve car wash. Use the wand to spray soapy water on the car (do not use the foaming brush! It can have small sand and stone particles embedded in it), then hand wash with your personal sponge. Then use the wand to hi-pressure rinse. Then the most important part: use the spot-free rinse (deionized water) setting to remove the high-pressure rinse water. Obviously, you will also be washing in the shade, no direct sun. With this method, the car can simply air-dry and there will be no spotting.

Soft water does not remove water spots...water softeners simply swap hardness ions (magnesium and calcium) for sodium; you still get water spots. To eliminate the spots, you have to use deionized water which requires a special filter.

As far as removing water spots on glass , clear top and carbon fibre items on my 2019 white GS i use a 1/4 cup of white vinegar mixed into 1/2 gallon of tap water , microfiber cloth soaked then wrung out, wipe all areas and all spots gone .
Note: local water here in Mesa AZ is somewhat hard.

Vinegar does work. I do not dilute it. My other car is gray and it got caught in the sprinkler water over night. since it was on the passanger side I noticed it after a few days.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have found some water spots on a glass top I bought and have been working to try and get them off the top.

Gang - I used Bar Keepers Friend to remove water spots on my C4 Targa and let me tell you - this stuff WORKS and works REALLY well. I cant believe it. Im not sure how this would work on painted surfaces...as this is a liquid abrasion.

To do this - I used a microfiber pad to rub in the Bar Keepers Friend liquid very gently - but i didn't see any results. So I used it in a VERY small corner of my targa top, with some good "elbow grease" and boom - no more water spots - BUT I did see some VERY minor abrasion marks so I rubbed the area with some McGuires Ultra Finishing Polish (M205) and boy oh boy is it shining like new now with ZERO - I mean ZERO water spots... I redid another area with my buffer (on slow) and it worked very well...see the before and after pictures:

The True Believers will hate me for this, but driving all over the country in all kinds of weather, and having hard water at our house, I can't be choosey.

For quickie cleanup, I use a touchless car wash, without any waxes or extra ingredients. Often leaves small water spots, usually not bad, no scratches.
Use the places with rotating brushes or flopping rags, only if you hate your car.
For more through cleaning, I use their power wand and my own bucket, because some road grime requires actual rubbing with an all-cotton washcloth while soapy wet. Then a thorough rinse, and then another thorough rinse with the "spot free" rinse. Then stay in the shade and use one of those "Absorber" chamois for drying.
That's a bit of work, but avoids water spots and can be done anywhere. Done properly, totally scratch-free.

Caution- using the "spot free" rinse and not hand drying afterward, in some areas works well but in other areas can leave water spots that look like the car is covered with barnacles. And just as hard to remove.

How often do you wash your car and how often do you need to replace the tanks?
