The Dexos approved 0-40 is recommended for all C7 corvettes. This oil is intended for tracking your Corvette and does not require the oil change back to 5-30 after track use as does the 15-50. NOTE: 15-50 is still recommended for hot climate racing.
….Take to dealer and show them as they most likely voided and GM coverage of your cats.

Only Dexos oil is approved.
Hopefully the OP has a receipt that shows they put the wrong oil in as he will need it if something goes wrong.

There is a difference. Mobil claims to have spent a lot of time and effort to develop the new ESP "stuff" to meet the GM spec. Our resident oil expert "LDB" who posts said when he was still working the "viscosity Improvers," which are added to "0" weight oil to get it to hold viscosity at higher temps to match 40 weight, so it can be called 0 - 40 tend to degrade over time and within 3000 to 4000 miles will not hold to the 40 weight equivalent viscosity. (I may not have said that with perfect accuracy- but essentially than is what happens.) He said that just means it could be more like 30 weight BUT GM would not say that was good for Tracking, for example.
So yep, the European formula may not maintain the properties GM requires (or they would probably have approved in before.) There is also the ash issue that was mentioned that allows the ESP oil to meet a more severe Diesel spec. Bottom Line: The products aren't the same.
SIDE BAR
I'm remined of STP, which my friend who woked for Exxon said they supplied to STP. According to him it was essentially their viscocity improver. Remember when a Car burned oil you added that "Stuff." I also recall his comment about STP having little investment in the product other than extensive advertising. He said they shipped the product in tank cars to a bottler who filled and labled the bottles that were shipped directly to retailers and perhaps wholesale oil distributors.
I also recall their test to "prove it worked." It had nothing to do with a car! You dipped a screw driver tip in the STP then tried to hold it with two fingers. It was adverted as being "so slippery" you couldn't hold it. In essence, it was so viscous your figners never touched the screw driver. The reson the "test" worked was it so viscous and your fingers never touched the screw driver tip that it slid over itself!
After I hung up on the brain dead customer service voice at GM, I spoke to my Vette tech at my dealer. Needless to say, he agreed that it should have been ESP. Shortly after, I received a call from someone at GM who knew what he was talking about. He understood that the dealer in Indiana put the wrong oil in and said he would work with that dealer to get me a REFUND. I was told that this would take 3 to 4 days to resolve.

The change back to 5-30 is required as the 15-50 contains ash (AS DOES THE EUROPEAN BLEND 0-40) and will destroy your catalytic converters.

Find the TSB AND PRINT IT OUT. Take to dealer and show them as they most likely voided and GM coverage of your cats.
Make them change out the oil ASAP and log in system as I’m sure it shows they put the wrong oil in, that’s how GM now knows your running the wrong oil.
I could never find info on how many miles it would take running ash containing oil to destroy the cats. However the manual states to change back to Dexos 5-30 emmediately after track use.
Fortunately my dealer does carry Dexos 0-40, they gave me a little grief at 1st as it’s more expensive but once I showed them the TSB, no problem. 1st and next 2 free oil changes will be Dexos 0-40. I’m running a 17 Z-51 in case your wondering.
15-50 is still recommended for tracking ZR-1
Destroy the cats? How would that even happen if the car isn't burning oil. How much oil could the cats possibly be exposed to?
