I received an email today from Honda on the anniversary of my Pilot, reminding me that I get free map updates for life. Honda uses Garmin for their navigation systems. All I had to do was plug a thumb drive into the car and tell the maps to update. Then I plugged it into my computer and it automatically brought up Garmin Express. A couple of clicks and about 15 minutes later the update was on the drive. Took it to the car and 20 minutes later the maps were updated. I wish GM would use Garmin. Their maps and guidance are far superior in my opinion. I'll probably never update my C7 maps because I usually use my phone but this was a nice surprise from Honda.

FYI. There was a time when Chevrolet provided Navigation (map) updates for free for the first 3 years of ownership. I benefited from this when I purchased my 2007 Tahoe Z71. I just went to GM NAVDISC web site to order and I received them with no charge. It's nice to see Honda, at least, can see what is needed to support and keep factory navigation as something people would want. All manufacturers need to realize this is the only way to keep "factory Nav" going or it will eventually give way to everyone switching to Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. I'm fine with the latter as I have Apple CarPlay on all 3 of my vehicles and will never upgrade the Factory Nav I have in 2 of them.
I got the letter today. Not wasting my $. I got to agree that Garmin is the best of OEM navs. I think Chrysler used them? Every OEM Nav I have tried sucked. I just got a Volvo daily driver and the car automatically downloads new maps every month. Still, the Volvo Nav is no where as good as Garmin or Waze, but they just finished constructing a circle (round-a-bout) down the road and it appears in the Volvo map now!
