There are some other issues with the Z06- we travel in the boonies sometimes and can't get anything more than 89 octane. ...
As opposed to those who think GM just needs to put in another cam or raise the already high compression ratio- not without downsides!
As I noted with my S10 where they got another “advertised” 20 hp they sacrificed low end torque. Not good for my 5 speed standard shift truck. Took advice of the Chevy Service Manager and bought a Hypertech programer that offered several hp/torque increase options. I picked the higher program for low end torque. Instead of the 87 octane the S10 was designed to use they changed the timing so only 93 octane could be used. They may have used a richer fuel/air mixture reducing mpg. That also required using a 160 degree thermostat. I added an MSD ignition, Flowmaster with duals and cold air intake with an oiled cotton air filter. It was a different engine and lots of low end torque. My gtech pro accelerometer 0 to 50 time decreased significantly.
Yep GM can no doubt get there already high hp/cid a bit higher but that may eliminate the ability to operate with 87 octane gas, get the C7 mpg with variable valve timing that it uses now, etc.
