I keep OnStar in a "suspended" status, and only use it when I take the car on a road trip. Their directions are usually spot on, and I like the vehicle security aspect for just in case.
I don't like it on my toy vehicles like the Vette. But I keep it activated on my wife's car and will do the same with my kids when they start driving. Navigation, Wi-Fi in low cell reception areas and the accident assistance is worth it to me. Especially at the discounts I usually get.
I know that's not the right word Rodney. I just can't think of the correct one. Instead of canceling altogether OnStar put's the subscription "on hold" until I call to have the car hooked up again. I wish I could remember the correct wording, but I'm gettin' kinda old don'tcha know.
I drive solo all over these here United States, and though, fortunately, I have not needed it for myself. I have used it twice for others. One of which was so remote, that, even though there were others on the scene, I was the only one to be able to call emergency services .
Does anybody think onstar is worth it? is it good? or, is it big brother...
To be honest, I don't know what they do and don't cover, for how much money. Since they've never provided me with a quick and easy explanation of this at or out of the year free period on my new 2017 C7, 3LT- I cannot accurately comment. I kind of miss the monthly air pressure updates I used to get for about 15 months. I also miss the 1 year of Sirius radio a little - but I could use a refresher on what my options are.
As far as big brother goes? I believe that your car may record it's data on either an internal or external recording log. Not sure about this.

I know most of you guys here are old enough to remember when a car didnt record and report everything you did to some "unknown authority". I'm not sure I want a car that knows where I've been, how fast I drive, and where I'm going, much less a car that records my every word and sends in to the central office for scrutiny... It all seems to me to be an invasion of privacy and a degradation of freedom.
I dont know exactly what onstar does and doesnt do but I can sure see a worse case scenario and usually when the opportunity is there....

Is it true that if you don't have onstar, but lets say in an emergency push the onstar button that someone will respond? I heard I think on this forum that it was true.

On my Silverado that is true. Never tried it in the Vette though.
