I am planning a trip from N.E.Ga. to St. Pete Fl. at the end of this month. The wife wants to take our Vette...I do too...aside from the dreaded love bugs in the air that time of the year...I have really bad memories of having to stop at every rest area to wash them off of the windshield in order to be able to see out of it....YUK!!! We use to live there...Anyone have a solution to the issue other than the obvious of not taking the prized possession... maybe a pre-treat wax or special coating or something???? Once you get there they are fine...its just mainly on the highways...Thanks in advance for your help!
Love bugs have been out for the past week but the season only last a few weeks so they should be mostly gone when you do your trip at the end of the month.
I just completed a 3,700 trip and had a lot of bugs. I used two coats of fresh wax on the front of the car. I also bought some Griots Bug and Smudge Remover. The Griots product will remove the wax, but is highly effective.
We are in the midst of the first love bug swarm of the year right now here in FL. I will not drive the Vette when the bugs are active. I can take some early morning drives and don't see but a few until after 10:00 AM. Then they are out in force. I wash the front end, windshield and mirrors of my other cars every day and put a fresh coat of polish on immediately thereafter. Sounds like a lot of work but it only takes about 1/2 hour. Keeps the finishes looking good and protected and makes the bugs come off easily.

A Novistretch works fairly well but I have another suggestion. When I was stationed at Ft Polk back in the 70s the Love Bugs were terrible. The locals advised putting Vaseline or a generic petroleum jelly all over the front of the car and the outside rear view mirrors. When you get to your destination stop at a self service car wash they will hose right off.
May and September each year here in central florida . they are worse in the afternoon for sure. as others have said they should be gone in two more weeks.
