My 17 GS is two years old this month. I've driven the car from NJ to FL and back twice during that time in addition to local NJ and FL driving. I couldn't avoid a couple of potholes here in NJ but, so far, no damage to the wheels or tires. I currently have 13k miles on the car. Keeping my fingers crossed, Good luck!

Both rear wheels. 1 crack on one side and 2 on the other. Noticed issue with 13,000 miles. Thought it was just a screw causing loss of air in right rear. Always in sport mode. Daily driver with 12 mile commute each way. Never tracked (gotta own it first!) While I am sure I have hit a pot hole or two, I never had an ohh **** moment, that hurt. Think you better look at the threads with people posting problems with wheels as it seems only the luck post here. My local tire shop said I was the 6th Grand Sport / Z06 customer they have seen with the problem.

Not me. My '19 GS is my daily driver. It has 11,000 miles on it and no cracked or bent wheels.

Well, I'm in the club now with a cracked rear wheel. With extended warranty, dealer say "nope, no, no, no, not covered".

Is the wheel bent where it is cracked?
Can they measure any run out, or see it wobble when they spin it on a tire balance machine?

I'm going to say no at this time, will have to take it to my Corvette tech to check that. Doing some research on recourse and pricing replacement wheels, not having a whole lot of luck.

If a wheel cracks without bending, it's hard to argue what it would be other that a material/design problem.

Your photo shows the textbook crack that develops. What part are you not having luck with? Finding OEM?

And that is the baffling part.
I have seen wheels bend much more than that, and NOT crack.

Bending is to be expected, cracked wheels that have not been bent is just wrong.

Dealer wants $782 for wheel and R&R. I'm thinking that's the Corvette tax, you know toys, yada-yada........

Don't see any recalls or TSB's, but understand there's a class action suit going?

About 20000 miles and no problems. Drive where we want and try to be careful but have taken a pretty good smack a few times. Can’t avoid stuff all the time.

I have had no problems in 2 years with my optional Grand Sport Machined Faced Aluminum wheels. And even though I have posted what TireRack has said about the manufacturing process used to make the GM Grand Sport wheels, it may produce the similar strength as a monoblock forged wheel rim BUT it could be more brittle!

My Grand Sport wheels are marked, made in Mexico with a Speedline Trademark name owned by the European company with a plant in Mexico that Tadge mentions in his Forum post (by what they call Rotary Forging.) That process was shown in the first C7 Bash video for the Z51 wheels. It is listed in TireRack tech info re wheel construction as Flow-Formed with the other processes, like casting and monoblock forged wheels. This is what TireRack states:

"TireRack info about Flow-Formed: "...This results in a stronger outer hoop, with aligned aluminum grain structure. The resulting wheel is a cast faced wheel with a hoop that has properties similar to a forged wheel."

IT MAY BE as strong with all the hot and cold working to make that thin rim, so it didn't bend, but is it more brittle! Was the "Flow Form" process, as Swiss Based wheel manufacturer Ronal calls it, in control? Is the chemistry to spec?

I'd try making a case to the Chevy dealers GM area service manager BUT even if one could convince him with some fracture toughness data test results from a cracked wheel, maybe to much at stake at corporate for home offcie to agree!

The percentage of wheel failures is not high enough for GM to correct the problem. Porsche did extensive testing on their carbon fiber wheels before they were released for sale.

Yes, there is a suit going. Tire Rack and Mid America Motorworks both sell replicas for about half the cost of OEM.
Or you could go forged. There are nearly 50 threads about the wheel issues, so lots of info.

Thanks for the info. Called Tire Rack yesterday, they said the don't carry the silver painted 20 x 12, but in black they do_____???

Tired of futzing around, had the dealer order new OEM.
